I actually liked the black and white pic, very Salvador Sanchez.

P.S. I'll think about some exercises you might want to try.

This turned me on...

Man, it's taken me 5 years to get this little bit of stubble I've got going around my jaw. Maybe if I put some Miracle Gro on it I'll grow a beard.

Tue 10/30: Watched Morales vs Paulie Ayala. The young version of Morales. So Ayala didn't really stand a chance against such a good boxer who is aggressive, and won't let you get away from him. Morales beat him up.
2 m around the park and back. The shins are getting better in record time.

Gym time:
1 round of stretching, one of ring jacks.
1 round shadowboxing. I'm trying to move around more, not stand still while I'm throwing combos. Get on my bike when I'm tired, and throw 1-2s off the back foot.

5 rounds heavy bag. Mike is definitely working us harder. I focused on throwing more jabs, not standing still when throwing, and throwing jabs while I'm moving my head and trying to create angles. There's always a point where you forget that you're out of breath and your arm screams in pain as you throw jab after jab. I try to imagine the other guy standing in front of me, how am I gonna move, how to keep him from finding an opening in my guard, things like that.

2 rounds double-end bag. My jabs are rendered useless by the heavybag. I'm trying to focus on speed, but it's hard to pop the 1-2 quickly with such weary arms. Switching from heavy to double-end is always tricky for me, because of the change in rhythm and focus (strength/ technique over speed). Mastering this transition, however, is what will make me a smooth fighter.

3 rounds speed bag. Have a hard time getting a good rhythm again, but I was doing more or less ok by the 3rd. It's about the journey, not the destination...

Conditioning:
3 sets of ab machine pyramid.
5x10 twist -ups.
Today, Liu concocted up some new "exercise" from his secret book of Medieval torture techniques. This one was called inclined resisitance sit-ups. Basically, you lie on an incline, held upside-down by your legs, and do a sit-up as a partner pushes down on your chest every few inches. Wonderfully painful.

And that concluded another all-too-short day of training. Tune in next time, when we'll explore the joys of putting on all your gear to spar, then realizing you gotta pee!! Firefox out.

Diego, do you warm up at all before running?

I used to get shin splints quite a bit back in High School, but our track coach had me warm up more extensively before training,m and it helped a lot. We would do the following:

10meters High Knees
10meters Butt Kickers
10m skips
10m Bounding (basically just standing horizontal jumps)
10 M walking on heels (this was supposed to prevent shin splints)
10m walking on calves
10m lunges

It seems like a lot, especially when youre just going for a LSD run, but if you are getting shin splints, it might help to focus on warming up properly for a while

Diego just forgets to take enzymes.

When he takes enzymes like he should, no shin-splints. When he doesn't, shin-splint City.
