Tue 4/13: Watched touted up and comer Thomas Mashaba against Cristobal Cruz, a seasoned fighter who doesn't have the world's greatest record, but is a strong and skilled fighter nonetheless. Cruz was a punching machine in this fight, setting a 12 round output record of 1580 punches, something I can only aspire to at this point.
1.6m run.

Gym Time:
1 round ringjacks.
2 rounds shadowbox.
3 rounds heavybag.
2 rounds bodysnatcher.
3 rounds double end bag.
4 rounds mitts. Mike had me working on power, swinging rights and hooks all day long, getting my form to absolute perfection so the rights hit hard, heavy, and fluidly. He also drilled the rotation of the forearm on the hook by making me throw only that for a whole round. It did wonders for my power.
2 rounds speedbag.
2 rounds skip rope.

No conditioning today, had to dip out early to get ready for finals. It's funny how stark of a contrast there is in my days; I go from my gym in the industrial wastelands of the inner city all the way to my job in the suburbs, as genteel and foo-fooey as you can get. Then there's my off days, when I go straight from the gym to school. People don't generally know I'm a fighter, and in my day to day life, I don't carry myself the way someone would envision the "sterotypical" fighter to appear. Yet I think people can somehow sense something different about me, and I can tell that some people go out of their way to avoid me, even if for no apparent reason. It's strange, but I can see that this sport is changing me, in good ways. I am becoming a stronger, tougher, more confident, more no-bullshit type of person. It's a bolder version of me, and it gives me a kind of gravity in daily situations that's starting to show. Boxing puts everything into stark perspective, especially when you start your day by getting in a fight. I can see that I'm changing, becoming a man, and with that comes a new perception of me that I've never seen before. I guess it's another good thing that comes with knowing you can kill a man with your bare hands.....

Wed 4/14: Watched two huge ass cruiserweights, David Haye and Jean Marc Mormek (gotta love the French). They bashed the shiznit out of each other for 6 and a quarter rounds, till Hayes knocked Mormek out with a nice body shot. Now the door is wide open for Hayes to move up to heavyweight, and get even bigger bucks. Needs to work on that chin of his though.
2m run.

Gym Time:
Today was a celebrity sparring day at the gym. We had Yuriorkis Gamboa, Sam Peter, and veteran favorite Glen Johnson in the house. Caught some of Gamboa's sesh with Jesse's up and comer Gabe. Gamboa has a fight in town and Sat, and he was darting around with a slick style reminiscent of Joan Guzman. Gabe held his own, though, and came on strong in the last round of the sesh, despite the fact that he has a tendency to tire after a few rounds. These are the guys that I'll be facing when I start coming up, and I think even with my rudimentary skills, my strength and workrate will be enough to contend with these guys. And hey, I'm only gonna get more skilled as I come along. Of course, with so many stars in the gym, we had to haul ass so the bigwigs could have the gym to themselves.
Half a round of ringjacks (I got there a little late).
2 rounds shadowbox.
4 rounds with Liu. I was very strong today, and yesterday's mittwork improved my form and delivery a lot. Liu was also coming on strong, and throwing a lot more and faster, and basically working on rearranging my nose.
Things I Did Well:
-Double up the jab. Mike's always on me about this. Today I even tripled and quadrupled it.
-Throw hard. Even Liu complemented me on it. And no one knows better than him.
-Moving laterally. I don't go backwards, but at least I go sideways more.
-Throwing numbers. Took me 2 rounds, but I started throwing more combos. A lot of uppers, I do need to work on throwing more hooks.
-Defense. Head and body movement is coming along a little more slowly, but my parrying skills are great. I was moving my head better than most days.
Things I Did Not So Well:
-Roll with the hooks. I need to bend my knees more with it.
-Throw hooks. Despite all the practice yesterday, I was right and uppercut dependent.
-Pivot. I could use some work on changing directions more quickly and fluidly, and using it to create angles. The footwork is coming along slowly, but with it my movement will become faster and slicker.

2 rounds speed bag.

Conditioning:
4 sets ab machine pyramid.
3x10 dips.
That was all for today, gotta clear out for the big cheeses. Sharif was back, and he dyed the top of his head blonde. He looked kinda like Sisqo when he hasn't been keeping up on the bleach. Not good. Firefox out.

Hey Firefox... I think you may have a career as a writer when this whole fighting thing gets boring. Between your log and Liu's I feel like I'm in the gym with you both. I can imagine te smells and sights and people yelling like madmen.

Good work man...If ever in NYC look me up we can go to the garden and run around the middle like we own the place and won the championship!!!! Then as we are getting thrown out we can see who runs faster it'll be a blast! Take care and be safe.

See I knew I wasn't crazy. After like the first 30 seconds I was like "this can't be right."

That's what I deal with every week y'all.

And Diego, something from the Gym you didn't know about that happened today:

Says I to Glen Johnson while pointing at you as you hit the mitts:

"This kid here, pressure Fighter, granite chin, 80+ per round and higher, no reverse, doesn't seem to tire."

Says Glen:

"Oh yeah? HA HA!"

Says I to Glen:

"Sound like anyone you know?"

Says Glen:

"HA HA HA!! NO CHIT!"

From that moment on he kept his eye on you when you were in sight.

Gabe fades late but came on late during the session...is gamboa in shape? Or was Gabe looking to prove something?

I saw what liu wrote in his log about his wardrobe.
