Days like that make both of us thankful I keep Advil at work.

How tight do they have your double end bags over there?

REALLY tight. They don't have much give to them at all. The last one we had at the house was harder to hit, but we haven't been able to use it in a while.

Sat 4/19: Watched Tyson vs Douglas. I had never seen the whole thing, and it was nice to see someone unafraid of Tyson the angry man. Douglas kept his composure the whole time and knocked him out in classic fashion.
1.5 m run.
Gym's closed on Saturdays.
3 runs touch and run shadowboxing. I've been working on my footwork and body angles a lot more. Course, it's a lot easier to do when the other guy's not hitting you. Real good warm up, though.
7 rounds mitt work. We worked a lot on footwork and opening up angles. We practiced setting up power punches and pivoting alot, as well as chasing to the body and controlling the flow of the other fighter. I've become a lot better at cutting off the ring. A lot of the guys are gonna be faster than me, so I've gotta become faster and better at intercepting.
That was Saturday's workout. On a personal note, happy belated to Adam, a real cool cat. Went down to his party last Sat and he and his family and friends were gracious enough to provide good food, good booze, and good times. Keep makin that art man!

Tue 4/22: Watched Tony Margarito train for one of his fights. He worked the mitts for like 5 min straight without taking a single break. Crazy. Then watched him spar Sergio Mora of The Contender, and though Mora was the bigger of the two, Margarito pretty much just bullied him the whole time.
1.5 m run
Gym time:
Met a good longtime friend of Liu's, Kevin, who watched us work at the gym. And we gave him a good showing:
1 round ringjacks.
1 round shadowboxing.
3 rounds sparring with Liu. Today was mostly for show, I'm not always at 100% on the first day after the weekend. But I gave a good showing for a Tuesday:
THings I did well:
-Footwork coming along nicely, very difficult to get away from me when I don't want you to.
-Throwing combos. I only threw a few this time, but that's better than nothing. It's all about just letting your hands go.
-Doubling up the jab, and following with the uppercut. Took me till the third to figure it out, but once I did, used it more than once to good effect.
Things I did not so well:
-Head movement. Just wasn't there today, and I paid for it with a headache.
-Coming in. It was hard for me to get on the inside, especially when I was jabbing. In the third, I started slipping when Liu threw to make my way on the inside, and I was getting better at it. I'm gonna focus more on this from now on.
-Defend the straight left. Liu's usual stance hides his left really well, and I wasn't keeping my hands high enough. This needs to improve a lot.
3 rounds mitt work with Mike. Focused on power, and it was hard to get it out there after the sesh. Did a lot of work incorporating the hooks and double uppercuts.
2 rounds double end.
2 rounds speedbag.
2 rounds skip rope.
Conditioning:
3 sets ab machine pyramid. doing 80, 90, then 100lb reps. More than half my weight.
2 sets pushup circuit.
That was all for the day. Tue is one of my toughest days, with school and all my other stuff to get done. But starting off a day so well sets a tone that can't be broken the rest of the day. When you start off by getting in a fight, the rest of the world just seems to matter a little less. Firefox out.

Wed 4/23: Watched Margarito vs Clottey, another Ghanian fighter (they seem to have a factory for them there), but not necessarily the toughest of them. He was on the losing end of the fight most of the time. Near the halfway point, he starting complaining that he'd hurt his left hand, and that hand was effectively out of the fight. One can debate the validity of this injury and it's effect on the outcome, but in the end Margarito was able to handle Clottey throughout most of the rounds, and finished with an easy decision.
2m run.
Gym time:
1 round ringjacks.
2 rounds shadowboxing.
2 rounds bodysnatcher. I took some caffeine pill, plus Full Throttle (an arginine/ creatine blend with caffeine in it), and on an empty stomach, I ended up paying for it. Even after the first round, I was on the verge of passing out, and I felt weak and queasy. So it sucked doing the rest of the workout, feeling like I was fatally OD'ing on caffeine. But I sucked it up and muscled through it.
2 rounds small bodybag.
1 rounds double end.
2 rounds speed bag. (Even the double end was too much movement for me).
2 rounds speed bag.
12 min on stairmaster to cool down.
So ya, my little energy freakout messed up my work today. It was all good though, Mike didn't show up till 11:30. When I saw him with Liu watching the sparring, I went over to say hi. He said "Sorry I'm late." and opened his mouth to show me the new gap in his grill. He said he was biting into something and it came out. I should've told him to get a gold tooth with an M engraved in it. Maybe I'll get it for him for Christmas. Firefox out.

Margarito's output was absolutely insane in the Clottey fight, like all time record insane
I'm shooting to reach half his output !

I told Diego it was a little preview of what it might be like when he and Sharif finally spar. I don't think Sharif will fade, though. But then again Mike seems to think he might be getting spoiled with American living.

Been there and done that! That has got to be one the worst feelings there is: all this anxiety ridden energy and your still suckin air like there's no tommorro! my experience was with an ephedra caffeine and NO boostin mix I put together before MMA back in November- I thought I was gonna die! 12 rds of mit work and alternating heavy bag work with stims just doesn't mix!
Anyway stay away from the heavy stims! and Great work rate Diego! This log is excellent!
