Decision is made to try to make the 152 pound weight class for September 10th.

Body Weight: 162 LBS

Summary
  • Jump Rope: 6-8 Minutes
  • Ring Work: 4 x 3 Minute Rounds
  • Shadow Boxing: 4 x 3 Minute Rounds
  • Rope Drills: 4 x 3 Minute Rounds
  • Sparring: 3 x 3 Minute Rounds

Notes: Went over to 3rd Street's sister gym, Titanium, over in Lower Nob Hill. Its a bit more posh than 3rd Street, but you can get some sparring with different people over there. Went one round with Simon, a former Golden Gloves champion. Definitely noticed the extra minute on the rounds that we were doing. Took more than I landed, but I put together a couple 3-4 punch combinations that landed well, and my defense and head movment is definitely getting a bit slicker. He caught me with a great 1-1-3b-3a that sent me back a bit, as well as a flush right hand later in the round. It was some good work overall and I got some compliments after. The next 2 rounds were against one of the white collar guys and quite a bit less intense. Worked on head movement, body work and getting under his punches. Shoulder is still fucked.

Almost a month ago. Run in the morning ya lazy bum.

I'm actually going to try to start next week. We shall see how it goes. I have been incredibly busy and not sleeping enough.

Is that a 10lb water-weight cut you're planning, or are you telling us that you've got some body fat that you can still shed without inducing organ failure?

I'm hoping that the water cut will only be necessary for 2-3 pounds as I would be weighing in only an hour or two before competition. I was down to 160 this morning, and I am basically eating 3 meals a day, with dinner being pretty small. So far, I have not suffered any problems with energy levels or focus in training, so as long as I feel healthy, I will continue with that plan.

So... 5-6 more pounds of real weight loss by September?

If you pull this off, I demand that you return to the weight room immediately and try to hit your old maxes, or as close as possible. Your Wilkes' total should be through the roof.
