ive done it. ive taken the leap. i decided last night that im tired as hell of being "sort of strong"; i want to be fucking yoked. a beast. whatever.

i finally called the powerlifting gym.

yes, that's right: it took me this long to call. i was content to waste away in the confines of the local Y having "okay" workouts. i can make up all sorts of reasons for this: it was cheaper, i wanted to wait until i had health insurance, until i could afford the oncoming massive grocery bills. the fact of the matter is: i was scared. and i still am, a little bit.

im about to step into a place where fucking off isnt allowed. a place where if you dont give it your all, you will be called out. i think this is why so many people are content at their shitty commercial gyms: they are scared. scared of what they may achieve, scared of failing. F**k, i know i am. this is a place where if you miss a day, they will call you up and bitch you out. a place where the owner answers the phone "WHAT THE F**k DO YOU WANT?!?!".

Its going to be kind of strange too. my skinny ass is 5'11" 170. the guys ill be lifting with: all superheavyweights.

wednesday is the day, wish me luck. better yet, wish me strength. more to follow.

indeed it is. its 12:00, i lift at 5:00 and im already giddy like a schoolgirl.

day 1: 3/22/2006

first day.

jumping jacks for 5 minutes then i worked up to 1RM on the box squat, bench press, and deadlift (sumo, HAHA Carnal).

box squat: 205
bench press: 185, 205x0
sumo deadlift: 275

blah, everybodies got to start somewhere. i also realized that ive probably been letting my form go to shit when i get heavier.

ive got some bad commercial gym habits, though, which made my coach, Scott, laugh at me:
1. not grunting. seriously, i feel weird really yelling now.
2. i went to put on some chalk for deads, and was neatly applying it to my hands. Scott yells "FUCKING PUT IT ON THERE!!!" . So i start vigorously rubbing it into my hands....over the container, so as not to get it on the floor. "DO IT OVER THE FUCKING FLOOR!!! I CLEAN ONCE A YEAR!!!"

because thats how ill pull in competition? i just pull more sumo than conventional.
