Start to Finish! An experience begins.....
I am starting a new project of trying to go from total newbie to a competitive fighter in a year or at least by May 2011. I have a few reasons to begin this and I want to log my journey start to finish.
Why I picked a year or by May 2011. Originally I wanted a year, but am adding until my 30th bday as a fail safe measure.
Reasons to complete this challenge:
a) a believe it is a realistic amount of time to be competitive (not having to win, but be competitive)
b) I am studying strength/conditioning or kinesiology in college for the next few years. so I believe the experience of training for an athletic event will be invaluable plus an asset to a career in training
c)I miss football and this will will in for me
d)I am an average person who is a mma fan
background of me:
28 yrs old
26 percent bodyfat
6'0 ft tall and 300lbs
more than five years experience in football(hs/semi-pro) at line both sides.
light boxing experience
Kajukenbo and light grappling exp.
experienced in weight lifting and nutrition theory
I live a real life, college, full time job and gf.
current lifts after three monthes in the gym again. I had about a year off as I was working two jobs and slacking.
1 rep maxes.
flat bench/Incline bench 315(just switched to flat bench)
squat 315
deadlift 410
cardio, out of shape:
taking Kajukenbo once a week and light running.
Basic theory of program:
*Train bjj/submission wrestling (gi and no gi) for at least until Jan before entering any tournaments and going to cont' thru all of training. plan to enter some tournaments to get experience and expose weaknesses
*Train Muay Thai after start of New Year or spring time
*Cont' weight training one or two days a week
*Condition for the fight
*From my football days, drill on the basics and concentrate on using them with a good mental/fight plan to compete with
*study/learn the mental game to fighting
*diet for performance and adjustments to performance related weight loss. Being I am an ultra heavyweight, weight should not matter as I believe in the local events there is no limit or if it is I know ppl compete at 285lbs. Ideally plan to be 265 to 275lbs.
*I am going to try to stay away from focusing on the quick ending fights as I mean training for the knock out or whatever.
