Man I just found out that while my doctor was taking out my appendix he also found a hiatal hernia. This is when the stomach protrudes into the diaphragm. Doc said it was too small to do anything about and it should heal itself. I'm trying to read up on it right now to see whether I should be going 100% when I lift, especially with the squeezing of the core. Anybody ever heard of something having this?

I don't know which one I have, but it's probably the first one because of the increased abdominal perssure when I squeeze my core.

* There are 2 types of hiatal hernia.

o The sliding type, as its name implies, occurs when the junction between the stomach and eso****us slides up through the eso****eal hiatus during moments of increased pressure in the abdominal cavity. When the pressure is relieved, the stomach falls back down with gravity to its normal position.

o The fixed type (or paraeso****eal) implies that there is no sliding up and down. A portion of the stomach remains stuck in the chest cavity.

Hiatal Hernia Treatment

Self-Care at Home

Lifestyle changes are often necessary to avoid symptoms of hiatal hernia.

* Modify your activities:

o Minimize heavy lifting, straining, bending over.

o Improve seated posture; don't slouch.

o Exercise more.

o Lose weight.

o Sleep on an incline, with head of bed raised 4-6 inches on blocks.

o Choose standing activities after a meal rather than sitting or reclining.

I know nothing about hernias, but I'm pretty sure lifting heavy shit is a no-no until it heals.

As the son of an immigrant I find it inspiring. While I firmly believe that the ideas the country was founded on were a result of the unique circumstances of the anglo-saxon peoples (thats another story), as long as people come here because they believe in the idea that governement dervives it's rights from the people and not the other way around then they are just as american as you or I.

Sorry for the Libertarian rant.

I don't think I'll ever know when it heals. When i went to the doc last week he completely forgot what he had done on me. I had seen him last Thursday and he operated on me the Sunday night/Monday morning a week prior. I won't see him for a couple weeks. I was giong to start T3 tomorrow. I think I'll just go for it and hope for the best.
