I've officially given up on going to the gym today, left work, gone home, and started drinking. It just seems like that kind of day.

Weird as it may seem, the Couture resignation really has me down and pissed off at the same time. Has Zuffa really gotten so complacent that they couldn't hang on to the man who was probably their single biggest star? Couldn't come to terms with the biggest name that they didn't have under contract and bring Emelianenko to the Octagon?

DAMN.

I haven't been this pissed off about something MMA-related since... well, since Liddell pissed away his chance at another shot at Jackson by fighting like crap against Jardine, but the time before THAT was a really long time ago, I'm sure.

Just. Pissed. Off.

Now there won't be a Couture/Big Nog, which I think would have been an incredible fight no matter when it took place. Now there's a very real chance that we'll have to endure another Tim Sylvia reign as HW champ.

And I have a deep, gut-sinking feeling that maybe the undisclosed American interest in the new M-1 management really is McMahon. Can't think of anything worse to torpedo the credibility of MMA in the U.S. If it IS him, most likely case is that he'll throw a whole pile of money at getting the best unsigned fighters that he can, find that they aren't enough to profit from what he's paying them, and the whole thing will implode like the XFL. Even if that's "all" that happens, no good can come of it.
