I also get a odd feeling in my stomach when I spar since I'm not used to hitting people. I think I'll ask one of the smaller fighters to throw punches at me while I work on defense. Maybe getting used to getting hit will help me not be so tense.

Defense drills def help not panicing about getting hit.

Good work!

Two different things. I'm fine when we're doing bag work or mitt work. It's that act of hitting someone that makes me tense up and gas out. I did go to three BJJ classes and couldn't even finish all of the warmup. I don't have good cardio yet but I'm working on it.

I liked the BJJ sparring we did at the end of the classes. I need to lose weight and become more agile on the ground. I know I would lose weight in BJJ but I couldn't even move once I hit my back.

I'm 325. Add a 200lb man on my chest and I'm definitly not going anywhere. The only thing that saved me was my strength. Guys started getting pissed because I could curl out of armbars.

325, I bet no one wants to spar you.
What kaboom said is right, you need to see it as fun and a sport - if you see it as some sort of fight for your life you'll be tense, gas and fight like shit.

I don't have a neck. I'm all head and shoulders. A guy did try to throw a gogoplata on me though. Once he realized that there he wasn't going to get a choke out of it he proceded to put his shin on my jaw and pull my head down. That was some painful shit. Even more painful then the RNC attempt that turned into a crossface submission.
