Someone who works here circled a petition they were going to send to NASCAR because they didnt want foreign drivers or Toyota in the sport diluting it's purity. True story.

You have to factor in that between when the Roman empire was carved up by the Lombards and 1848, Italy was not a single country, and the Italians were largely content to fight among themselves. So in short it isn't suprising that Italian arms and armor were highly prized during the middle ages, they had plenty of practice fighting each other.

Trust me, dude, I've been hearing ALL about that shit for months. I take every opportunity to tell them how much their "sport" ain't a fuckin sport and I'm constantly telling them how easy it would be to replace the drivers with an Inertial Navigation unit, a few actuators and some proximity sensors.

The last part really gets them pissed because they're engineers and they know I'm right.
