If they're telling you you grind too much and you need a mouthguard, try to find a way to wear it. For years I though, fuck it, I'll crown the motherfuckers. Well, first off crowns are expensive as hell. But worst of all, when you grind, the teeth rock slightly in their sockets in the jaw. Over time this can lead to bone loss. This is where I am- on the verge of bone loss, and gum disease, from grinding. Doc said I have the wear of a 70 yr old man- I'm 42. So, take this into consideration, and find a way to alleviate the grinding with a mouthguard.

Oh donut, do it. I've cracked several, and didn't know it until a piece fell out- by that time, infection had gotten under the filling and it was root canal time. I never cared much, till they told me about the bone loss from the teeth rocking in the jaw. I have a top molar, rearmost right side, that has been rebuilt twice from grinding- now, its moslty ****l from fillings and a piece that fell off, and they want to crown it now, before I lose it. Losing a tooth when you grind means the pressure that was on 4 teeth before is now on 3- and they will wear more and more rapidly. Had I known about the bone loss issue I'd have started wearing a mouthguard 10 years ago.

Oh, and don't think the grinding will stop either. I've yet to find a way to make it quit. I've been on Paxil for a year and a half, and my temper doesn't get so extreme, but I still grind. I've asked dentists, psychs, and GPs how to quit grinding, and there's no solution- stress relief, sure, exercise, sure, but when that fails....

So if any of you grind, get the guard.
