It was different from an upa though because you post on your leg instead of bridging. It felt much more explosive than an upa which is usually fairly floppy and loose.

Urb. I'm thinking about getting an acoustic bass guitar. Thoughts? I'm looking at a custom made 6 string but I'm not sure if I should go fretless or not.

Get yourself a strat with a floyd rose and some hot pickups. Pair of tight jeans and a long blond wig and start a Maiden cover band.

Two of the exact same low end models buzzed in different places and had slightly different tone. You really get what you pay for and even then I think it pays to play before you make the purchase. one of the higher end models had a loose bridgepiece, sure it's an easy enough fix, but if that kind of buzzing is going to get past the inspectors who knows what else they can miss! on solid body electrics I think there's a lot less voodoo and a lot more consistency.
I'm probably gonna go pick up that 500 dollar model today. I wasn't paying attention to brand when I played it, just wanted to know what it sounded like. I imagine, the more you pay the more likely you are to find consistency from bass to bass by the manufacturer. How much are you expecting to drop on an acoustic 6 string?

Fretless has always been experimental for me. I'd buy a cheap fretless to learn on (like a steinberger electric or something) and see if that's the way you really want to go before dropping over a grand on the real thing.

Well the model I'm looking at won't be cheap, maybe close to 2000 but money well spent in my book because i really love solo bass playing and some of the acoustic solo stuff I've been checking out really sounds cool.

Here's the basic model Kinal Kompact bass

The six string would look like this, I think this one is a 30" scale though.

The Citron AE5 is nice too.

could have been the barrel roll reversal from sidemount
where when you go for an underhook, then put a whizzer on you. you then trap their arm and bridge and roll over

I kind of agree with bacon. the c string isn't a bass string, it's a guitar string. unless you're claypool, a 6-string bass is a tough act to pull off.

the thing I'm buying today is gonna look more marriachi band-like. something like this

I don't have any real experience with semi-acoustics, but I'm still a big fan of playing before paying. Customs are a crapshoot no matter how you look at it.
