Read the first one of the new series when it first came back. Pure, unadulterated crap. Trying to write prequels well is no easy task, but that book kind of screws with a lot of things that were supposed to be new and/or a revelation in Herbert Sr's books.
If you liked Dune, do yourself a favor and don't read any of the newer books. __________________

Is there an order to reading the Dune books? I have read several Star Wars books, but if you don't read the one prior in the series it seems that you miss some shit. I tried to find an online timeline but was unsuccessful.
Currently reading the highly recommended: The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. I also purchased World War Z. I wish I could afford a hand made Paul Chen Katana.  __________________

Order to reading Dune books: Read Dune. Stop.
Zombie Survival Guide was fairly entertaing, but I thought it spent a little too much time building up a specific, semi-unique zombie-mythology of its own.
Haven't read WWZ yet.
