I busted my ass because I didn't have t worry about being stuck there forever and I wanted a good workout. Two days before I was supposed to be done I get sent to a new area which had a different setup to help out some newbs. I ran up a platform trying to fix a jam and cracked my head on a steel beam. I bounced back and regained my bearings but felt a trickle on my head and realized I was bleeding.
Long story short, when I tried going to the hospital, the shift manager gave me shit because:
1. My doctor wanted more money from me (even though I would be going to a hospital and not to him)
2. I was 18 and a college student so I had no work ethic (he had never seen me work, and if I wanted to quit, I'm pretty sure bashing my head on a beam would be one of the last ways to pull that off).
3. I was "making him pay for my hospital visit."
The last one was utterly absurd. The insurance pays for it, so all it means to him is another check in the "somebody got injured" box. Fuck that guy. I really wanted to beat his ass, but I am much happier that I didn't kill him. Now he has to suffer through the rest of his obviously miserable life, and I think that is a much worse torture. Ok, that's it. Did any of you actually read this whole thing?

I got cut 5 weeks into my job at Mobil, still in the probationary period, and my system wasnt clean from weed yet. It was late, 5:00 or so, and I'm driving a forklift, going up high to get some drums from a 5-high stack. I clip a light fixture and glass rains dwon- a chunk hits my hand, below my thumb, and nicks a vein. I get the glass cleaned up, and my boss walks by- shit. I tell him what happened (this was the cool supe) and he says if it doesn't quit bleeding by shift end, I have to go to Medical. Fuck. They're gonna fix it, AND take a piss test, which I would not have passed. Now its 5:40, 20 min to make it stop bleeding. I finish sweeping the glass and go to the bathroom, grab a guy to help me, Steve, the metro that trimmed his arm hair.
We go to the lunchroom for ice, I'm running water on it, and I tell him to get me ice. "Oh man, you're bleeding bad, fuck, thats sick" me- "Yes I know get the fucking ice !!" This guy is swooning and shit- I had to yell- the blood wasn't that bad, fucking man up and help me here. He comes back with ice, and says "Man I gotta go- I can't look at that- " and hauls ass. So I ice it and have it over my head, and my boss comes in- 6 minutes to go. He's telling me, and I look him straight in the eye, and tell him, "If I go to Medical I'm toast." He nods in understanding, but still, he has to report it in 5 minutes if it isn't bleeding. I continue pressure- look- its still bleeding. Fuck. 3 minutes. I hold it over my head. The minutes tick off. He says "Ok, Mike, let me look, times up." and I lowered my hand, and the blood held back for a second, and he said- "Go home. No report necessary." I hauled ass and fixed it at home.
That bosses name was Mike, and because he cut me some slack, I worked my ass for him. Too bad he left.

I just reheated a pork chop, but I reduced some port into a glaze to mask the obvious reheated chewyness. It was pretty good.

Can you elaborate? I have some port wine. Do I just heat it for a while until it thickens?

That's pretty cool. I never had any problems with my supervisor. She wasn't the nicest person, but she was fair. But that guy was the shift supervisor. He is a piece of shit.

Yup. I added a little salt and pepper at the end, but thats really it. Heat a pot on pretty high, dump in port, reduce til it coats the back of a spoon. You will be able to see the difference as it bubbles, instead of looking like boiling liquid it will look like bubbling sugars or something.

I carmelized some honey with red wine and wine vinegar the other day. Basically the same process as the port. I think it would be pretty good on tuna. Maybe have somehting tosted on ther to add some smokeyness, like seasame seeds or something.
