Let me get this straight though. 10 years ago I get a root canal done and they fill it. 10 years later I get a crown put on because according to them leaving it with just the filling will lead to rotting. Now I get a root canal again where they drilled through the crown and filled the crown.

yeah that sucks. If I have to start having all my work redone in 10 years I will take up heroin.

I am surprised they are drilling the crown instead of pulling it and working under it and re-cementing it. You'd think they'd want to keep it intact if possible, but it may rip off tooth material if they try to remove it.

There is no reason for a new crown. They should be able to either drill thru that one and fill it or pull it off and re-cement. they caution you not to eat sticky candy, shit like that, so it will come off.
