Good definition, and cant really find fault with it.
Still though, when I think of grappling tournaments, I think of "matches." When I think of boxing, muay thai, etc., I think of "fights."
*shrugs*
You all know my bias though.

It almost seems like Sherdog it trying to gain a bit more respectability. Or as much respectability as one can have when they name their site using rap star lingo.

*shrug* I'm not qualified to say either way really, having never done striking.

This should be the official S&P signature after the 19th.

I thin part of it is in grappling there are spots where you will be "safe" atleast for a few seconds: in mount, side control, guard(bottom) maybe. In all these postions the opponent in most cases would have to attack your position before they could attack a limb. Where as theres no position in striking where I'm safe from being hit, save on my knees.

There was a big thread in grappling forum a long time ago about this.. people were calling there matches fights, adn they felt it was justfiaible based on the above definition. In the end to please all the striking folks, they decided grappling matches would no longer be referred to as fights, but as 'epic world wars on the tatame'

The S&P is the sherdog and nothing else matters.

If sherdog is trying to gain respectability they should shut down the HW forum.

Attacks in grappling aren't all submissions. You're never safe from reversals or escapes, since they all put you in precarious positions. Get reversed, and suddenly you're the one who's trying to defend submissions.
