Has it ever effected you on the judo mat? I can't imagine that judo (AKA: The art of dropping people on their face) and vertigo/dizziness go together very well.

I suspect my little problem is from shooting without ear protection.

Not really. Usually it starts mildly and gradually (like over 3 days) grows into full blown vertigo and a diesel engine rumbling in my ears. I have plenty of warning, and I just call in sick to Judo when it hits.
When the vertigo hits it's brutal. I literally crawl from room to room, and feel extremely nauseated (like after riding a carnival ride as a kid feeling).

I work with an old fart who shot a lot with out ear protection in his youth. There's a whole spectrum of pitches that the guy just plain can't here. There was a cricket going wacko in our office once, and he couldn't hear it. It was driving the rest of us nuts.
Wear your ear protection when shooting kids!!!

It seems pretty unlikely honestly. It's not like I was out shooting everyday. Plus, even if it is, not being able to hear made me feel all out of whack. At least this way I won't have to worry about it once that ear goes deaf entirely.

I disagree. I occasionally shoot without ear protection and think it's a dumb idea, I now use ear protection all the time. Especially when I shoot my 7mm mag BAR or our 12 gauge. For the 9mm or .40, no ear protection is fine though.

I shot a .45 without ear protection once.
My ears rang for what seemed like an eternity and they felt weird for a little while after that

What? Pistols are hard on the ears. 9s and 40s aren't that bad, but it's worse than a 12ga.
I'll shoot shottys all day w/ out ear protection. Not pistols though. Wouldn't even take one shot with a .44 mag w/out ear protection. Not worth it.
Rifles w/ muzzle breaks are loud as shit too.
