For the most part, pretty damned good. Some not-so-good bits (fender bender, emergency car repairs, and my very first moving violation), but I got to spend a week with my wife, away from everything, going wherever we felt like going that day and doing whatever we felt like doing. Camped a lot, saw some "scenic overlooks" in the Appalachians that really deserved the title, and swam in the Atlantic for the first time since I was a kid. All in all, a good vacation indeed.

Fair warning to all: the mosquitos on the Carolinan coast are numerous, belligerent, and well organized. You could tell which bits of skin had received insufficient repellent by watching the swarm of them waiting to land there, and I swear that the bastards tried to fly off with my steak.
