The only reason I dont go do something physical is that I refuse to take a pay cut.
That's one the reasons I want to go back to school. Any decent job I could get right now would involve some level of physicality and I wanna save all my energy for being a fat, lazy powerlifter. That shit is taxing. Gotta spend a lot of time sitting and sleeping if you wanna lift heavy.

I agree with all of those except pay more, but that could be a geographical difference. You could also look for a small company position. Pays more than government (usually), more interesting people/relaxed environment, hardly any red tape like in a gov. position, and flexibility in terms of negotiations (if you want, say, more time off instead of a pay raise).

Yeah I owe all my technical skills to being a fat, lazy kid all my life and doing nothing but geeking out and eat twinkies, stoned, while teaching myself systems and shit... School did nothing for me and was a waste of time/money.

It gave you a shitty piece of paper to let you get your foot in the door though.

What sucks is years ago, before the net bubble burst, you could have gotten a decent IT job without a degree if you're good at it. I know guys who can still get jobs thanks to the experience they have under their belt from those days, and still don't have degrees.

Yeah IT jobs here in CT, for the state, pay well if you have the experience and backing, I have a friend on the inside who's been begging me to go so he has someone intelligent to work with.

I've worked for small companies, it's a double edged sword, and bigger companies are too precarious in that they might just decide to axe your whole department on a whim. I'm in a mid-size right now, and can't stand it either.

Ideally I'd be riding a horse from village to village 10,000 years ago, pillaging at my will... It sucks being born past your time.

I've long felt the same way. Hence, history.

I don't even have the degree, I got a shitty cirtificate from a community school back in '97 that was worthless two years later. It's just the experience I've built up from the companies I've worked for that gets me by. That and I'm good at what I do, even though I hate the people/environment.

But yeah I have several friends in the same situation, got tons of experience working for like half a dozen failed .com companies and can work anywhere w/no degree because of what they'd done then.

I'm too virtuous to pillage. I wouldn't mind leading a good revolution, though.

Pillaging is just no fun anymore, so much planning and calculation has to go into it. Not like the good ol' days, when some sack, a broadsword, and some brutal cunning was all you needed...
