Automatics are more fun to shoot than revolvers, too. However, if you're set on a revolver, I actually would recommend a S&W.

Single action and double action.


When talking about revolvers, a single action requires you to cock the hammer. Pulling the trigger simply releases. Nice crisp trigger pull. Not too heavy.

Double action means that the hammer is cocked and released when you pull the trigger. It has a much heavier pull, but can be cocked manually and shot as a single action too.

If I wanted Single Action I would go with a Ruger. My father who has experience both says he swears by the fact that S&W's Dual action is better. I don't know though.
