So, I went into the standup forum. Horrible decision. I see a thread about how "MMA strikers suck compared to real strikers", or thats the jist of it. WTF is a "MMA striker"...I seem to have missed all of my "MMA striking" lessons, and I also missed out of the sale of MMA chalk.

I hate everyone generalizing the stand up technique in MMA as being bad. Despite how much KK likes to laugh at the MMA guys as being inferior due to his unbelievable boxing skills, and mock the MMA guys for their "Worrying about the takedown", the fact is these guys are pretty damn solid strikers. If they go into most straight boxing gym's in the country, they'd do pretty damn good. And unfortunately KK, worrying about the takedown is real. Everyone there seems to buy into the whole "Boxers would pwn in MMA if they could learn takedown defense" thing, well a traditional boxing stance mixed with boxing footwork will get you on your ass very quick by even a decent wrestler. It would definitely be my game plan, that's for sure.

Well MMA strikers are garbage compared to people who train purely striking. It only makes sense since MMA fighters train things other than striking. Boxers and kickboxers have real striking, a lot of the MMA striking you see is utter shit.

That is very true. However, you bring a guy from K1 into a org like the UFC, and his "MMA striking" will be extremely solid. But then he may realize that his "Kickboxing wrestling" isn't very good, and he get taken down and submitted due to his inferior skills in "Kickboxing Jiujitsu".

Well that's not what they're talking about. If you look at it from a sole striking standpoint, the MMA fighters are pretty mediocre in that aspect.

However put a K-1 fighter into the UFC with not much ground experience and they could very well lose everytime.

However nowadays it seems that grappler>striker does not hold true, and now sprawl and brawlers are succeeding bigtime.

It seems like a lot more MMA fights have both guys staying standing for longer than it used to be, as everyone's takedown defense gets better. So, now it just looks like an ugly kickboxing match...

It also depends on what MMA org you watch. The UFC has some very bad striking in it, at least from what I have seen (I prefer to watch other orgs, but I obviously watch the UFC because it's on alot). It seems as if most of the fighters in the UFC are just brawlers, throwing 1-2 combos and occasionaly throwing a 3-4 maybe mixed with some leg kicks hoping to catch somebody. It's just the generalization of it. I mean, sure, some MMA striking is shit. But, the guys with shit striking usually have extremely solid wrestling/judo/jiujitsu to make up for it.

Well, with Pride out of the picture, what other org's do you recommend?

K-1 Hero's has JZ, his striking is pretty good. He stood with Masato for 3 rounds. But even PRIDE striking wasn't great, or better than the UFC.

Also, how the heck did Chuck succeed as long as he did? His striking was ugly, yet every fucking MMA fan thought his striking was "Amazing and awesome". WTF? He caught some guys with shitty standup with some shitty, awkward looping punches. He has a hella weird style.
