Set up your scale. Get some long heavy object, as long as your vehicle. or as close as possible. The object should weigh at least 200 lbs.
Weigh the object by itself, and weigh yourself separately.
Now stand on the scale and lift one end of the object.
Record that total.

Subtract your body weight.
Then see how much less the object weighed than by itself.
This should give you a percentage.

You can accurately use this percentage to determine how much you will actually be lifting when you lift your Jeep.
Yeah but you can't do that with an object that has a uneven weight distribution. The % would be specific to the object in question.

I can't think of any other method to get him close to an accurate and close estimate, can you?
I think it'll get him damn close.

It already started in the city. Suburbia will be just as easy.

I'd like to start it up again though. Maybe I'll start an actual contest thread.

I'd take the total weight of the vehical. The subtract the weight of the engine. Then find the distribution of weight over the pivot point by measuring and adjusting for the center point of the engine. All of this is assuming you know how much gas is in the jeep, because this will change the equation and gas being a liquid will flow when it is lifted, so a near empty tank would be best. I know there is a formula for this I just haven't done anything like this in almost a decade. I'll look around. I'm sure I can come up with it.

The easiest way would be to find an industrial scale and a hand lift, just subtracting out the weight of the lift, but access to those things isn't common.

Wow, did not see that one coming. I can imagine you can get bitter or bored after staying here for a few years. Still think he'll be back.

The weight in your hands depends on the location of the center of mass of the vehicle (height and front/rear balance) and the angle of elevation. The observed weight actually decreases the higher you lift it.

I think the height is somewhat irrelevant as it will be lighter the higher it is lifted. However the bigest weight distribution issue you woulb be the engine. If you did one equation for the car minus the engine with an even weight distribution then one for just the engine with measurment for the centerline of the engine and then added them together I think it would be a good ball park.
