The whole 32 weeks aren't going to be like this are they? I assume that 12 or so weeks is this kind of shit and the rest is classroom and ride alongs. Right?

Damn, I thought NYPD was long, that's only 24 weeks. 32 is crazy. I have no doubt you'll bang through this like nothing though.

If you're not taking it already, glutamine and ZMA should help with your recovery and productive sleep. Make sure you're getting enough potassium and fluids so you don't cramp up like your classmate.
If they're modeling this after military basic training/boot camp, which it sounds like they are, they should get more laid back as time goes on - so hang in there.
On the bright side, keep in mind that you're getting "paid" to work out, albeit not in line with your goals but it's exercise nonetheless.
As far as your classmate leaders, keep in mind that they are probably getting their shit jumped for not only their f-ups, but the f-ups of everyone in their squad. That's true military hierarchy there - shit rolls down hill. Try not to take it personal.
As in the military, it also sounds like they are creating unattainable goals to increase the stress level and test your desire to be in law enforcement. Just realize that some of their demands will be unattainable, do your best, and knock out the push-ups or whatever when they discover your brass is smudged, etc.

Newt very good suggestions. Thank you.
Yes they structure similar to military hence 'paramilitary'. Also whether it gets easier or not i dont know. The class that graduates in a month is doing like 700 push ups...so if that's getting easier then yes...
I know shit rolling downhill saying and it's been said and reemphasized...I just felt pissed cuz he questioned my integrity over some bullshit...I am not going to look you square in the eye and lie to you over something as small as shining shoes/brass...murder maybe...lol.....I may suck at shining shoes but that's another story...finally figured out how to get that fucking gloss they get...i used 2 coats of regular black then 2 more coats of neutral that gives that gloss....no1 told me anything so had to figure it out on my own(the manual with instructions is lacking in this theme)...

If you want to spit shine your boots or whatever, use wet cotton balls to apply the polish. Use a small, circular motion and focus on the toes and outside heel. These parts usually shine easier and if they look good, it makes the rest of the shoe/boot look shiny, too. Kiwi also used to make a "Parade Gloss" polish that was supposed to shine more, but I could never tell the difference. They probably would disallow it, but you can also lacquer your brass after you shine it really good to avoid doing it every day. Also, the brass cleaner that's embedded in cotton (can't remember name) usually works better than Brasso. Do you have a black plastic na****g you have to pin on your uniform? If so, Pledge furniture polish and cardboard can really makes those shine. I went to military school (much more anal than the "real" Army) before I joined the Army, so I know a lot of different tricks regarding uniforms, boots, etc. If you're having trouble with a specific issue/item, let me know.

I remember watching a show on Versus or some channel. It was some BBC production where they took a bunch of civs and put them through SAS basic training. One of the harder elements was something they called the "Fan Dance." Basically, after an already full day, they were made to hike/run up and down the highlands. Make it to one check point in the time allotted then on to the next one. There was nothing significantly different in this test in terms of endurance capabilities except one thing--no one was told the distance or time involved.
So many people dropped out because they didn't know the end point!
Take home message? There IS an end to this, you're capable of making it, and there's more gas in your tank than you realize.

Dude, it's so simple, it's brilliant. Have time and distance as unkowns, make the trainee go at it.

There's always a known. You are either only one standing or you're not in those challenges.
Newt I appreciate the advice. I will give it a go today. I literally spent 2 hours ironing my clothes, shining boots/belt. I studied maybe 15 minutes total for the 2 tests we had today. Basically we have these things called L.earning D.omains and they are on various laws(mini law school classes)...so then we can fail 5 of them and retake them once...if we fail more than 5...we're out of the academy, or if we fail retake then we're also out....thankfully everyone passed today...it was rediculously easy tho couple people made it just at the mark...i got 100% and 96.67%(missed one)...so pretty happy...some questions are so simple that it almost made me paranoid...
DT: 2 hours.....several hundred total reps of various exercises(burpees, mountain climbers, hindu squats, arms and legs ab exercise, push ups, jumping jacks, planks for time)...the most difficult DT instructor was not there today so we got a few breaks...then did bunch of agility drills, tumbles, etc..

As far as studying goes (I know...I've got to put my two cents in on everything ), making audio tapes of the information I was studying has always worked well for me. I would basically read my notes aloud and record them - then listen to them while I was doing other stuff, or even going to sleep.
Keep up the good work - weekend is almost here!
