Bryan's Log: BJJ and Kickboxing

I suppose I'll try and get this log going for the third time. I'm pretty bad about keeping it up, but my big brother reminded me of its benefits, which I can't deny. Who doesn't enjoy being heckled and made fun of on a daily basis?

My ultimate goal is to fight MMA, but, time is not permitting, so it needs to be broken down in to stages. Right now I'm focusing primarily on bjj, I get in to do some kickboxing only about 1x/week right now, just so I don't completely forget how to throw punches and kicks. I'm getting BJJ in about 3-4x/wk and a couple of runs every week as well, sometimes a long bike ride or swim.

This past weekend I had my first blue belt tournament (US Open XIII). I lost pathetically in a boring fight that ended up with a 5 to 0 score. I had the zero. I was pretty dissapointed considering that I had had many visualizations and dreams about winning the whole goddamned thing...visualizations are for the effing birds.

So, back to the gym. Right now I want to focus on my mental outlook while I'm fighting as much as physical practice. I want to KNOW that I can beat anybody that I train with, and my wish is to fight as if my life depended on it. No shortcuts, no "lets just go light today", none of that bullshit.

Today is my day off, tomorrow I'll start the actual training log.

Where I train/Coaches:
Kaijin MMA- Garth Taylor and Paul Schreiner
Farley's Kickboxing Academy- Francis Farley and Jeff Maldo...

It's true, Martin does occasionally allow his vagina to leak, but he carries hand sanitizer and cool whipes wherver he goes, and that allows him to stay fresh and nice smelling. My training log, in reality, will be shite compaired to his however.

Wednesday 10/22

BJJ Practice
6-7 Fundamentals
7-8:30 Advanced/Rolling

During Fundamentals today we worked a lot of gaurd escapes, specifically standing options and what to do based on the different grips your opponent can make. I think we did this because in my last fight, I stood up, got my feet back and then immediately got swept without putting up much of a fight. The guy may have well just pushed me over.

Actually, in the advanced class we pretty just continued different passes, i.e. what to do if their knee comes in only partially, what to do if it gets all the way in, and to try and avoid it altogether by staying tight and keeping your elbows tight and his back flat while passing. Then we rolled.

My ass was handed to me by a purple belt Strikeforce fighter...gotta love feeling like you've never learned a thing...
Did pretty well for the rest of training but nothing spectacular.

Thursday: 10/23

I beat up a bunch of the third graders that I teach today. They came at me all kamakaze style and half of them got punted, the rest eventually went back to their seats, stopped talking, and got back to their Math Assignment. The fat kid that does Tae Kwan Do actually thought he could take me out with a blubber kick. Stupid fuck.

Bike Ride: 4 miles, hills.
