Smolov Day 7
Bench Press: 8x4 @ 250lbs
This was easy. Rest was about 2min between sets, and every rep felt strong, powerful, and clean.

Front Squat:
135x2x10
185x2x5
225x5

Front squats hurt my knee less than other variations, but I still can't push too hard. Just trying to not go to complete shit. My bench is now higher than my squat, and my front squat is higher than my back squat. Fucking gay.

Experimented with various new movements and just had some fun.
Handstands
Butterfly pullups (rings)
Skin the cat (rings)
Kettlebell Flips
Kettlebell throws
Shotput

Grappling Practice
Didn't roll hard. Mostly helped new guys. Submission grappling tournament on Saturday for about ten of us, so just fine-tuning things. Should be a good time.

So.... I'm pretty much retarded. My sleep schedule is completely out of whack. After laying in bed and attempting to sleep for several hours, I said fuck it and stayed up the rest of the night. Went to the gym when it opened at 5:30am and attempted a workout. It didn't go so well. I got halfway through, and completely crapped out. By set three I was sleeping in between sets, and I couldn't even lower the bar on set 6. So here I am, taking care of paperwork, posting in my log, and about to shower and eat breakfast than go to class. Run some errands and than crash out for most of the day. Did I mention that I have a submission grappling tournament tomorrow 3 hours from here? And that I'm going to cut 5lbs so that I can avoid the heavyweight division? Or that it's round robin format with an absolute division that's open to anyone who wants to compete? Or that my team is bringing about 10 guys, so that's a lot of potential matches right there? It's going to be fun, but I'm not exactly setting myself up for success. Whatever.

Attempted Smolov Jr. Workout 8
Bench Press: 5x3 @ 265lbs

Tourney Results:
I placed second in the 205lb division. They combined all the skill levels in my weight, because there weren't enough competitiors. It was round robin, and I rolled 5 matches. I had 3 wins, 1 Draw, and 1 Loss. 2 Opponents got injured and dropped out before I could roll them. Scoring was 3 points for a sub, 1 for a draw, and total points were added up after all matches to determine the winner. It was a pretty cool format and helped limit people just holding position and not working to submit.

Absolute division matches took place in the cage. I had 1 Win, 1 Draw, and 2 Losses. However, I was controlling my last match, and was close to getting a draw, but as I went to pass guard, my opponent blocked me with his arm and popped one of my ribs out of place, so I had to pull out of the tourney with only 2 matches to go. It's happened before, and this time isn't as bad as the others, but I'm definitely hurting a bit right now. I think dehydration played a roll. I cut 5 lbs, which isn't much, but my first match was only about 15min after I weighed in, and it was HOT at the gym. I was sweating faster than I could rehydrate. In my first match, my calves cramped up hard, and they're still killing me.

Anyway, it was a blast, and I'm pretty hapy with my performance. I have all my matches on video, and I've already identified some things I want to work on and improve. I'm definitely a better grappler now than I was this morning.

All I did today was go to practice and see how I felt. I was definitely limited. Once I warmed up I could throw punches without trouble but not while cold. When grappling, i had to go real slow and easy, and really couldn't apply much pressure. Guess I just have to focus on technique and work around it as best I can.

Did you always kick ass or did you have to work at it?

I definitely had to work at it. When I decided to join the Marine Corps I decided this exercise thing might be a good idea and wanted to see what I could do. 2 pullups and a slow half mile jog later, I was wrecked for days!

I've come a long way since than.

Close Grip CHINS:
BWx5x10

Easy but started to stress my rib too much, so I called it after the fifth set.

SOHP:
95x2x10
135x5
155x5
Att 185 but couldn't support due to rib. The other sets were really easy though.

500 BW Squats for Time
13:29

LSD ~ 40min I need to run more, because my body didn't enjoy this at all. The last two days had my legs pretty wrecked before I even started, so that didn't help much either.
