Thanks for putting up links to the fights - cool commentary too. I haven't watched too many of the yet.

questions: what do you normally eat in the run of a day? how long do you take to do your run? (just to trying to figure out your M per H).

and just one thing I find funny: every one keeps asking you if your take this supplement for this and that supplement for that THE MAN WORKS AT GNC!!!

anyway I'm a fan of the log, keep up all the good work

You could keep up, it's all about the will to.

My eating in a day is odd because of time constraints. We run, then it's to the Gym relatively soon after, then it's to work immediately after, and I get home around 8pm. Usually I have two main meals which just consist of some kind of lean protein, greens, and by lean protein I usually mean grass fed beef or salmon, so the healthy fats are present as well. I usually have soup at night. Throughout the day I also use protein shakes (2 typically) and whole foods bars (2 typically) for roughly 6 meals per day.

I don't usually disclose my supplement list, trade secrets. Plus it's only relevant to me.

Awesome work Liu! I am glad you got a trainer that is world class as a fighter and as a person too. Reading your log is part of my daily regimen. Always keeps my spirits and motivation up. Keep it up, bro!
I read yours daily as well Brotha. You were there when this was barely more than a pipe dream in my head. It's amazing how far both of us have come when you think about it.

Quote:
So Liu, even though you are old as fuck, you dont gotta worry. Antonio Tarver went to the olympics at 28 and didnt turn pro till he was 29.

I saw a interview with a strongman competitor, cant remember who, but he said that you have 10 good years in the sport. It doesnt matter if you are 20 or 40, your body can hold up with the tear for 10 years before it breaks down. Said it isnt about the age so much, just the accumulated damage your body takes over a period of time. Even though he was talking about strongman, the logic seems like it would apply to any sport.
lol I'm not that discouraged about age, just more anxious. I feel younger and stronger than I've ever felt, and have gotten BETTER with age. Fuck them young bucks, David is nearly 10 years younger than I am and can BARELY out-speed me.

Quote:
I like that idea about having ten good years in a sport, regardless of what age you start. I myself consider me a bit of a late starter at 22, and remember, I'm coming with NO fighting or sporting experience of any kind whatsoever, just an angry kid with a dream. You're more advanced in your development as a fighter and human being, but that also means you have more at stake and less time to risk injury, and physical and mental setback. Sometimes the do or die will can work against you, which I know you know, but one can only be so objective about one's passion and motivations and the directions it can drive them. It's Mike's job not just to pull on the reigns, but also to guide us through the treacherous political world of boxing. Not an easy task when your job is to instruct stubborn, fire-eyed fighters who are determined to prove their mettle even if it kills them. Still, I think Mike is an extraordinary being, and his reservations and underlying motivations may not be for our eyes at this point, but I trust him. He's done so much for us already, and I don't doubt that he'll do what he can to protect and advance, whether we like the strategy or not.
Simon Hermanito. I told Aaron in the locker room today that I'm never leaving Mike as a trainer. He understands me too well. I don't know if you feel the same, but Mike is one of those rare males in this World who is an actual grown man, not a boy pretending to be one.

Wow great post KK, this log is always a great read. I wish you luck in your career, you too Diego (watch the nuts though )

This is all the luck I need right here. But much appreciated.

I have my first boxing sparring session on monday, and any tips going in would be greatly appreciated. sorry to fill the log with a personal question, you can move it to my log if need be.
I'll reply in your log.

Friday - 2/22/08:

Liu had the idea of going light today. Unfortunately for him, Mike had other ideas. No rest for the wicked...

7am - Another day for the midgets. Watched 108lb wrecking machine Ulises Solis beat the dog shit out of Jose Antonio "Jaguar" Aguirre. Aguirre is no scrub, but "El Archi" was just too much for him. Now there's a couple things I want you to pay attention to before watching this Fight. One is how well-produced this is. Even if you don't understand Spanish, it's EXTREMELY exciting the production quality. They show training and build-up, there's sponsors, the announcers are great, the fans are electric, and the Fighters are fired up on account of it all. Box Azteca shows just how big Boxing is in the Global Market here, and why Diego and I want to go to Mexico to fight. They even feature commentary from Fernando "El Ko-Chulito" (which means "The KO Cutie") Montiel who we watched yesterday, and legends "Chiquita" Gonzalez, and Julio Cesar Chavez, for those of you who DO understand Spanish.

Solis/Aguirre. (follow links for rest)

7:40am - 2mile run.

10:30am - Gym Time:

2 minute stretching, sore as HELL.

10 minute rope-skip. I had to mentally block out pain in my feet.

3 rounds Shadowboxing.

20 minutes punch shield. Honestly don't know how I pulled this off. Probably sheer Pride. Mike didn't seem disappointed at all, but I felt a step below myself. However I did notice I hit hard as Hell, and I think a couple guys got the idea that I never cut loose in sparring, that if I fight for real I'm a lot more inclined to Hospitalize someone.

2 rounds body-snatcher.

2 rounds double-end bag (I was blurred-vision tired by now.)

2 rounds speed-bag (got a second wind and did well).

Conditioning:

AHHHHH HA HA HA HA!!!....fuck conditioning.

Gym Moments:

Mike trained today. He was in the ring Shadowboxing with us. After he ran me on the punch shield he wrapped up and got started. Diego and I got to watch him work with Rafael Garcia Jr. who was dawning the body vest and focus mitts. Let me tell you, Mike may have lost speed and conditioning, but the form and power is still there. Both Diego and I were cringing at how hard he was hitting. Rafa was shaking his own right hand after the second round where Mike focused on tying the straight-right into combos. And Mike spent all of the 3rd round hitting the body-vest. I've never seen combos run on the body like that. 1-2-4-3, all to the body. 1-1-4-3-2, all to the body. And he finished almost everything with double-jabs...to the body. Rafa was gasping at them. Eddie was fuckin' with Mike, telling him he needed to move his gut aside and bend his legs.

David sparred Wes today. He actually did better than I thought he would, though Wes was obviously not trying to kill him. David also seemed tired. But it does a lot for your head when your regular sparring partner does well against a guy like Wes.

As Nick came over to have me tie his gloves up, he threw one of the ugliest spinning kicks on a heavybag I've ever seen. I almost shat myself laughing. Then he bellowed "SEE I COULD DO MMA!! I'LL FIGHT KIMBO SLICE RIGHT NOW!!!" The History that makes this funnier is that Nick is promoted by Gary Shaw, and has been having trouble getting fights.

Oh and you guys have seen me refer to Ak, well until today I never could find his record. It's because I had no idea how to spell his name. But this is he: Akinyemi Laleye yesterday he came in the locker room and said "I was talkin' to this bitch last night. She said to me..."A mufucka wit a big dick who fuck for a minute ain't shit. And a mufucka with a little dick who fuck for a minute ain't shit." Can you decipher this riddle?" Chad was sitting on the next bench and cracked up laughing harder than I did. I tried to keep a straight face and said to Ak "that's some deep shit man." Chad said "no doubt, some spiritual shit."

Can't remember anymore right now but I know there's something else I want to post. I'll remember it later tonight or tomorrow.

Decipher? It sounds like it should be one of the deleted scenes from the Million Dollar Baby.

BTW. You're doing terrific! I think that a lot of guys would love to be in your shoes, but not many have the balls for it.

I had a quick question a while back a while back about your ab rollouts. Are you doing the Ross Enamait version, jack knife to parallel? I have been adding this to my workout but going all the way I can't do more than 2 times. The last 6 inches is literally a bitch on wheels.

If you haven't caught onto this already, then here's a treat for you, a video of Floyd Mayweather Jr. giving out priceless advice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl_l7P5T8qs I'm interested to know what you think.

Yeah that's how I do it. Been practicing for a while, took me forever to be able to crank them out. I can't go COMPLETELY parallel, but close to.

There's a thread on it in the Stand-up technique section where I commented on it.
