**Liu's random Gym tip:

If you wear your training shoes home from the gym rather than taking them off at the gym and putting them back in your bag, remember to put them back in your bag when you get home from the gym or you lose a good 30 minutes of gym time, like an idiot.

7am - 2 mile run.

10:30am - Gym time.

Apparently Edgar isn't coming in for the rest of the week. So I did a circuit.

- 3 rounds Shadowboxing.

- 2 rounds skip-rope.

- 3 rounds double-end bag (the one at the gym sucks, I don't like it much).

- 3 rounds uppercut bag (particularly working my lead-uppercut into the lead-hook).

- 4 rounds Heavybag, working punch-outs and bodyshots mostly.

2 rounds Shadowboxing to cool down.

Today I became a bit better acquainted with my reach. When I was hitting the uppercut bag I was rocking it pretty good with stiff jabs from further away than I thought I could touch it from. In Boxing, one of the most overlooked things of today is a good textbook jab. If you have one, and you're in-shape, you're pretty far ahead of many other Fighters and give yourself a chance to win most fights.

Also confirmed that Chad Ganigan is the Son of former good good Fighter Andy Ganigan:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Ganigan

Chad's in a unique position, he's lost his first two fights because he was out of shape and Promoters just wanted use of his last name. BUT, now he can GET fights because people will think they can just walk over the Son of Andy Ganigan. If he fights like he trains now, he'll quickly end that thought.

Also, I think Rodel Mayol thinks I'm Filipino. He makes a point to greet Ganigan when he comes into the gym (Ganigan is Hawaiian but of Filipino heritage), and now me, too. lol

I'll be doing my mini-workout before bed as well.

Thanks, have to have a good work ethic or else I don't belong in this gym.

7/26/07-7/27/07:

Thursday - Off.

Friday.

7am - 2.75 mile run.

10:30am - Gym time.

Things started out on a good note as Richie got the call that he's being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Congratulated him, then the work began.

- 10 minutes dynamic stretching.

- 3 rounds Shadowboxing.

- 5 rounds Sparring.

I was working my range. If any of you guys like a challenge go to a Boxing gym and find the nearest stereotypical Mexican Fighter and TRY to keep him at the end of a jab, LOADS of fun, I highly recommend it. Occasionally I'd back off and let Diego work on his bouncing in rather than walking. Occasionally I'd stand toe-to-toe and let him go Mexican on me. He's getting good at going into auto-punch when he gets hit, too. And getting better at defense. Occasionally at the end of the rounds I'd let him open up while I defended off the ropes.

Highlight of the whole thing was that Richie didn't bitch once. Had nothing negative to say. He seemed pleased with my work (I been using the shell more and I think he likes it), and I caught him grinning when I'd wave Diego in for the last 30 seconds of a round.

Then he gave Diego some good pointers on fighting a Southpaw.

2 rounds skip-rope to cool down.

Interesting note:

There's a new guy training with Mike McCallum. He whoops when he punches. I mean he goes "whoop whoop" in a high-pitch. Think Jim Kelly from Enter the Dragon when he fought. Seriously. I kinda want to spar him to see if he does it when he fights.

Funny point of the day:

Richie says "So what do you guys wanna do today? You wanna spar? You wanna touch each other a bit." I raised an eyebrow and said "not the way you're saying it." He says "No I mean with the gloves ON."

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that Edgar showed up today (although he seemed terribly pre-occupied, like he didn't want to be there). But because he came late he had to spar Baby Ganigan (that's what I'm calling Chad). Even though Chad works with Mike I think he'd make a good sparring partner for Diego (he's a bit too small for me). He fights kind of like a mini version of me, but with less of a jab. He and Edgar were actually a pretty exciting match as Edgar's got the Amateur experience, but Chad was born with a Silver glove on his fist being the Son of Andy Ganigan. I got to see some of Edgar's flaws when he's in with someone a bit better than he is, Chad showed a lot of openings to his style. I made mental notes as I always do.

Saturday - 7/28/07

Liu runs through mouthpieces like nobodies bidness.

Red Rock day:

3 mile hike up to elevation. When we hit the upward part of the hike (where the rocks are too sharp and loose to trot), I like to bob side to side with most of the steps and throw punches in between.

Focus Mitt sprints:

Round 1: Non-stop 1-2's

I felt surprisingly good doing this. Better than normal, the arm fatigue wasn't setting in as quickly and I was able to put some mustard on the punches even.

Round 2: Non-stop uppercuts with feints.

Some were arm-punches just for speed, then I'd interchange bobbing side to side and throwing the uppercuts off of feints on either side, even got a crouch going for a few.

Round 3: Non-stop hooks.

Mixed in high and low more as well as turning the hooks over, particularly my left hook as I think that's going to be the punch that gets to Edgar eventually, and most righties, once I get them looking for my right hook.

I felt good enough doing this that I decided to cut the rounds short, no need to kill myself.

3 mile hike back to the car.

It's not AS hot today because there's some humidity as it's monsoon season. But yes, full gear. Bodyglove shirt, sweat pants, long sleeve shirt, and hoodie.
