Saturday - 10/11/08.
I don't even remember what fight we watched. But the handball game went well. "El As" is a natural, so his efforts actually speed the game up considerably. If this Satruday's game moves as fast then we'll start playing actual games for points round-robin style.
In the evening I didn't work out because Rodge came over to see the Tarver/Dawson fight. It was pretty hilarious toward the end when Dawson had Tarver reeling and all but finished, but seemed to be sparing him, listening to Rodge yell: "Ah fer fook's sake jus 'it 'im a'ready an' put 'im owt of 'is misereh!"
Rodge's tale is even moreso than I thought. On the way home I asked him what he did back in Ireland. Turns out he has his own carpentry business and had about 20 guys working for him. He ended up getting fucked over on a job real bad and it entirely left a bitterness with that field of work. All the time he did carpentry, even being the Foreman he trained and competed in Amateur events. It was only recently that he decided to basically abandon everything and come to America to pursue dreams of getting good enough to win Nationals and go Pro soon after. I myself left a Management opportunity in Florida, so it was another parallel. He also said he noticed how introspective I get after sparring and said he feels I shouldn't be too harsh with myself. That he's been Boxing competitively for 10 years, has been in with World Class guys routinely, doesn't do shit BUT box here, and believes he'll be a World Champion some day. He said "it's not bad t'all fer youz ta be going toe-t-toe widdat."
He's supposed to be bringing me a couple CD's of his Fight videos (they're like edited HL clips) tomorrow. So hopefully you guys will get to see what he's like when he CAN kick the ass of the guy he's in with. I've seen it, it's not pretty.
**EDIT - Just remembered. It was Mosley/Mayorga. Showed Diego what a brawler can do on the World level when he brawls smart. Mayo was puttin' it on Shane for most of the early rounds.

Tuesday - 10/14/08.
6:50am - Began the morning with the old school war between a 21 year-old Jeff Fenech and a 28 year-old Daniel Zaragoza. Jeff was defending his Title, and was a Hell of a young pressure Fighter in this day against the double-tough Zaragoza. I didn't care for the HUGELY biased commentary or the ref admonishing Zaragoza for breathing in the wrong direction, but it's a fun scrap nonetheless (this one is megaupload, so if you really don't care to see it don't bother clicking because it'll take a while):
Fenech/Zaragoza.
7:40am - 3 mile run.
10:30am - Gym Time.
10 minute stretch.
1 round ring-jacks.
2 rounds Shadowboxing.
4 rounds hard sparring, straight into the fire.
I wanted to use my speed as much as possible and Mike thought this would be a good idea. He wanted speed and movement. He said "we a'ready know you can stand dea an' Box, so move aroun' an' Box." I have to admit I saw more things I could do when I did, new things I hadn't seen before. Diego of course was relentless pressure, doubling and tripling his jab with ease. The only thing I could really land clean was my counter-jab and my left to the body. In the 3rd round my right forearm cramped up, and by the end of the 4th it was unbearable. Mike had to massage it loose. He said I used my right more than I ever had before and suspects that's the reason for the cramping. It's also all brazen from the velcro on Deigo's glove. Sucked, I wanted to go 6.
2 rounds Shadowboxing to cool down.
Conditioning:
Ab-machine pyramid x 2.
50 twist-ups.
6 minutes twist-bar.
Gym Moments:
Angel was back in the Gym today and Jesse Reid revealed what the deal is with that kid he fought's record. Cody, you'll find this interesting.
Apparently it was a Roy Englebrecht (sp) card, the Fights he puts on at the Marriott in Irvine. They like that Pacheco kid a lot. So more times than not they give him the benefit of the doubt with draws based solely on that he's a local, he's exciting to the local fans, he's a nice kid, and they almost always pair him with even-matched people. Even thought Jesse said he heard that Angel deserved the win, he complimented Roy saying that he does nice Fight Cards and likes good Fights so he always tries to match Fighters evenly.
Angel said he'd get me a DVD copy of the Fight. So you'll all get to see him, too. I was chuckling today though at how Mexican he is. He tried to go to Wal-Mart (or as we call it "Wal-Marte") to have them copy the DVD for him. And he's got this little Chevy, I think it's a Lumina, and the color? Primer. lol

Tuesday - 10/14/08 - Night Session.
Forgot to log this.
5 minute stretch.
10 minutes over/under rope.
10 minutes skip-rope.
15 minutes touch-and-run. Continuous effort, working defense only against numbers. Doing this helped me see some of why I get hit against swarmers like Rodge. And I think I found a better defensive posture on the inside from which to punch off of. Theoretically the smart move for a taller rangier guy on the inside is to clinch or push-off to create distance, but I'd rather Margarito if I can, only with better speed and crisp combinations.

I could have sworn I made a thread in Stand-up forever ago. But I might do it again. If not I'd post it in here.

No. I'll either make a thread about it in Stand-up or post it in here. I want to try and find visual examples of all the jabs first, though.

Wednesday - 10/15/08.
NOW Liu is in proper Boxing shape...
6:50am - Began the morning with the Cotto/Margarito Fight. We've never seen this Fight other than being there live. Funny, because the Fight wasn't as exciting re-watching it as it was being there and ROARING every time Tony scored. We saw more technical stuff, but I think Diego would agree it's at-best a hollow feeling compared to being there live. Very odd to see Cotto so utterly discouraged as well. Advice to Cotto if the re-match gets signed, hit him in the fuckin' BODY.
7:45am - 2.5 mile run.
10:30am - Gym Time.
Diego couldn't make it today, so it was just me solo.
5 minute stretch.
1 round ring-jacks.
2 rounds Shadowboxing.
30 minutes mitt-work. No that's not a typo, Mike kept me on the mitts for a straight half-hour. We spent the first 5 minutes or so on the jab and double-jab. Then the 2 fast jabs followed by the hard 1-2. Then slipping the right into the 4-2 (same hand, rear hand) followed by my right-hook. Then it was onto probably the toughest directional change combination I've attempted. 1-2-4-3-4-3-2-1-1. The first uppercut is lead-hand, the second is rear-hand. I only did it right once or twice. Mike was displeased with my right hook. So I swear we spent the next 15 minutes or so on just the double right hook, jab and double hook, hook-uppercut-hook all with the lead hand, over and over and over until my ass was cramping from all the waist twisting. He gave me maybe 2 minutes rest total. We started just before 11, and when he said "that's enough" I looked at the clock and it was 11:30.
2 rounds speed-bag.
8 minutes rope-skip. This is where Mike was irritating me. Whenever I skip rope slow (even if I'm doing knee-lifts) he bitches. I NEVER skip as slow as Diego does and he never says shit to Diego. I don't know why he always picks this time to pick at me, but it's one of the few times where my patience wears thin because I hate skipping at the END of the workout as it is. I think he does it just to do it, so I put him on ignore and he quieted down, but then acted normal when I was done.
Conditioning:
Push-up circuit.
40 dips.
Arms are DONE.
Gym Moments:
Rodge says he's going to give me the CD's Saturday because he keeps forgetting as he's pre-occupied with being Sharif's chief sparring partner for his upcoming bout. So on Saturday when he and Sharif come over to see the Pavlik/Hopkins Fight he'll give it to me then.
Speaking of Sharif's Fight, if any of youz Californians might be in Vegas for Halloween, Sharif's Fighting that night at the Hardrock. I'm going to try and get Diego and I participant passes. But we'll be there either way.

Ha! New username, this is what I've finally settled on as a Ring name. Someone at the Gym said I look sinister, it stuck.
