Liu thinks the Islanders are taking over Top Rank...
6:50 - Began the morning with this:
Outside The Lines: Still Standing - ESPN Video
WARNING - Bit of a tear-jerker, if you're a human being.
7:15am - 2 mile run.
10:30am - Gym Time.
10 minute stretch.
1 round Shadowboxing.
4 rounds sparring with Junior:
He's been back in the Gym for a couple days and it was good to be back in with the Samoan Slickster. I wanted to see if the style adjustments I'd made would make a difference, and he said after round one, they did. He was throwing things like 1-4-3 all with his left hand, and not landing a damn thing. In so many minutes he maybe got in a good jab and uppercut. I defended the left-hook and even managed to roll and counter one, but the second time I tried that the sumbitch threw two and nearly got me with the second one. At one point we threw stereo hooks and landed both, my right and his left, which was good for a laugh. My offense and defense were both on point, and aside from a bit of right shoulder fatigue, I felt good today.
2 rounds double-end bag.
Mike said that was enough.
Gym Moments:
Diego didn't spar today because he's putting in work with Angel tomorrow. Angel's been sparring Adrian the past couple days, Adrian is Floyd Sr.'s Bantamweight, who stands an alarming 5'11". But, Angel pasted him for two days straight. Yesterday he knocked him down with a left hook, and today Adrian was getting bloodied and battered, and Floyd Sr. wa so alarmed he WASN'T cursing, just standing there looking shocked. Kenny was fucking with him, too, as Angel came out for the second round and landed a leaping left-hook first thing. Kenny cackled and said "Hey Floyd, I tol' 'im go out there an' throw a leff hook!"
Speaking of Kenny, in this month's Ring Magazine their new face of the month is Deandre. So you mufuckas pick that up if you want to read about one of the guys I get to train alongside routinely.
Samson's been back in the Gym, along with his Father who is EXTREMELY knowledgable in the game. Eddie also has a Tongan Fighter named Booy (or however it's spelled, but it's pronounced like bouie), who is Frightening. Imagine David Tua, only about 6'3" and about 265 of mostly muscle. He's got a good jab, a killer left-hook, and an even worse right-hand. He sparred Kevin today, Jesse Reid's TANK of a Cruiserweight, and it was odd to see Kevin backed up and bullied around the whole time. Word has it Booy also kicked the shit out of Duncan. At one point Jesse was shouting for Kevin to hit the body, so Booy patted his gut, grinned, and raised his arms while walking straight at Kevin.
Lastly for those of you wondering about Rodg his last name is Gorman and he's drawn the grand prize. He has no work Visa, so he's been desperately seeking paid sparring. Well apparently he's going to be working with Edwin Valero, who is in-town. He's pretty confident about it, too. Lately he's been looking a lot better with Sharif. He says he loves Top Rank, too, and thinks it's the best Boxing Club in the City.
