Thursday - 8/28/08.

Liu thinks the Islanders are taking over Top Rank...

6:50 - Began the morning with this:

Outside The Lines: Still Standing - ESPN Video

WARNING - Bit of a tear-jerker, if you're a human being.

7:15am - 2 mile run.

10:30am - Gym Time.

10 minute stretch.

1 round Shadowboxing.

4 rounds sparring with Junior:

He's been back in the Gym for a couple days and it was good to be back in with the Samoan Slickster. I wanted to see if the style adjustments I'd made would make a difference, and he said after round one, they did. He was throwing things like 1-4-3 all with his left hand, and not landing a damn thing. In so many minutes he maybe got in a good jab and uppercut. I defended the left-hook and even managed to roll and counter one, but the second time I tried that the sumbitch threw two and nearly got me with the second one. At one point we threw stereo hooks and landed both, my right and his left, which was good for a laugh. My offense and defense were both on point, and aside from a bit of right shoulder fatigue, I felt good today.

2 rounds double-end bag.

Mike said that was enough.

Gym Moments:

Diego didn't spar today because he's putting in work with Angel tomorrow. Angel's been sparring Adrian the past couple days, Adrian is Floyd Sr.'s Bantamweight, who stands an alarming 5'11". But, Angel pasted him for two days straight. Yesterday he knocked him down with a left hook, and today Adrian was getting bloodied and battered, and Floyd Sr. wa so alarmed he WASN'T cursing, just standing there looking shocked. Kenny was fucking with him, too, as Angel came out for the second round and landed a leaping left-hook first thing. Kenny cackled and said "Hey Floyd, I tol' 'im go out there an' throw a leff hook!"

Speaking of Kenny, in this month's Ring Magazine their new face of the month is Deandre. So you mufuckas pick that up if you want to read about one of the guys I get to train alongside routinely.

Samson's been back in the Gym, along with his Father who is EXTREMELY knowledgable in the game. Eddie also has a Tongan Fighter named Booy (or however it's spelled, but it's pronounced like bouie), who is Frightening. Imagine David Tua, only about 6'3" and about 265 of mostly muscle. He's got a good jab, a killer left-hook, and an even worse right-hand. He sparred Kevin today, Jesse Reid's TANK of a Cruiserweight, and it was odd to see Kevin backed up and bullied around the whole time. Word has it Booy also kicked the shit out of Duncan. At one point Jesse was shouting for Kevin to hit the body, so Booy patted his gut, grinned, and raised his arms while walking straight at Kevin.

Lastly for those of you wondering about Rodg his last name is Gorman and he's drawn the grand prize. He has no work Visa, so he's been desperately seeking paid sparring. Well apparently he's going to be working with Edwin Valero, who is in-town. He's pretty confident about it, too. Lately he's been looking a lot better with Sharif. He says he loves Top Rank, too, and thinks it's the best Boxing Club in the City.

Conditioning:

8 minutes stairmaster.

Push-up circuit x 3.

8:30pm - Night Session:

Wasn't going to put in the night session this evening because I was supposed to go to an appointment tomorrow morning, but that's not happening so I will be at the Gym. I was going to just do a 5 mile morning run tomorrow and an evening session, but I'll do the run and Gym tomorrow.

10 minute skip-rope.

10 minutes shadowboxing.

20 ab-rollouts.

30 leg-lifts.

20 Hindu push-ups.

Friday - 8/29/08.

7:15am - 3 mile run.

11am - Gym Time.

10 minute stretch.

2 rounds shadowboxing.

4 rounds bodysnatcher.

3 rounds double-end bag.

6 rounds heavybag.

2 rounds speed-bag.

No conditioning today, felt like shit overall.

Gym Moments:

When I got to the Gym Rodg was already there, as I was stretching he asked me if I'd corner him while he sparred Ray Sanchez. Flattered as I was, I felt I could do better. So I goes over to Kenny Adams and ask if he'd do it. He took a whole round to decide if Rodg was worth the effort and quickly determined he was, by the time the 3rd round came Kenny was shouting encouragements as if Rodg were his own guy. Rodg managed to piss Ray off with his pressure to the point where Ray did some dirty shit including a shove down.

Diego finally had his Warrior moment today. In the first round against Angel, he got hit with a clean liver shot that locked him up for a second. Mike started to unstrap his headgear and next thing I heard was Diego cussing at the top of his lungs through his mouthpiece. Mike re-did the headgear and Diego went two more rounds with Angel, and managed to back Angel up a lot more than he did the first two times they ever worked.

When it was all over with Samson Po'uha's Father came up to Diego himself. You may remember him as the voice who told Samson "go out there and knock this motherfucker out or don't come back" when Samson fought Golota. This man is a gritty old Warrior the likes of Mitch Hampp, but a bit bigger. He said to Diego that he has a future in this Sport, because that kind of grit and toughness is something that can't be taught. Kenny also said they'd work with Diego every chance they get, which is high praise because Kenny don't bother hardly speaking to people who he thinks can't fight.

I was proud for him, it's been a long time coming. I got my moment way back when against T. Now he got his.

Wonderin where you had been this week. Any chance of us gettin some more sparring footage of you guys anytime soon? Itd be cool to see how much you guys have progressed from that point to now. And if the video is for us to see, it gives you guys an excuse to really beat the shit out of each other.

We should be able to get footage pretty soon actually. It'll be interesting because both of us fight pretty differently now. I can use the Shell, but it's no longer my first approach, and we both spar with a lot more intent.

We'll try to get not only footage of us with each other, but with other people as well so you guys can see some of the guys we get to get in with.

Do you a fight lined up, Liu, or are you still waiting to make your pro debut?

I've lurked this log for awhile now...lots of good stuff. I'm very interested in boxing, but there is no where around here to train.

Saturday - 8/30/08.

Began the morning with the story of the Old Dog versus the Young Lion the first time it happened in Foreman's career where he was the Old Dog.

Holyfield/Foreman.

Then it was onto 30 minutes of touch-and-run with no real breaks, just like 5 or 10 seconds here and there for water. Let Diego work some of the aspects he needs to be better against speedsters like Angel, even switched my stance to mimic Angel's a bit.

7pm - Evening Session:

10 minutes skip-rope.

20 minutes Shadowboxing.

Virginia. Fredericksburg area.

Google came up negative. It is POSSIBLE that there could be an unlisted gym within 30 minutes...but I've yet to find one.
