I don't fight fat guys. I just back-pedal until they go into cardiac arrest, then 1 punch KO them.

Wednesday - 7/16/08.

Liu was off his feet for the first time at Top Rank today...

7:12am - Began the morning with the first encounter between the late Diego Corrales and Joel Casamayor. Casa's great against most pressure Fighters. The Katsidis and Corrales fights were excellent, so was the Campbell fight, as opposed to the Castillo and Santa Cruz fights where he stunk the joint up. This was the fight stopped on two very bad cuts to Corrales' lip:

Corrales/Casa I.

7:45am - 1.6 mile run.

10:30am - Gym Time.

5 minute stretch.

1 round ring-jacks.

2 rounds Shadowboxing.

2 rounds canvas heavybag after gearing-up.

Round-robin sparring:

First 2 rounds with Junior. I felt slow today, sluggish, but the good news is Junior counter-punched a lot more and forced me to work my defense while coming forward. Then somewhere in the first round (I think), our legs got crossed up and I soared past him and hit the deck. Everyone had a good laugh who was looking, and Diego ruled it a slip. I got Junior back by purposely tripping him later, I'm pretty adept at stepping in deep and jamming my right knee into the outside of an Orthodox Fighter's left knee as they try to back away to their left side.

Last 2 rounds were with Diego, and Mike was on me to throw more than 1 or 2 at a time, which I do when getting winded a bit. But today I was also dealing with two things. One is that my right shoulder's been killing me. Second is that I was trying to better tie-in offense AND defense simultaneously. It's difficult to intertwine them both with a volume puncher in front of you. I felt my defense was well, only got caught a couple times, once with a really good bodyshot that sent the air out of my lungs. Lucky for me I endure those well. Landed a pretty nice left hook and right uppercut of my own as well. Diego's good at defending 3 out of every 5 punches I throw save for the MOST tricky or fast nowadays.

2 rounds Shadowboxing to cool down. My shoulder was tough to move, but Mike seemed impressed enough with me gutting it out to end training there.

Did 10 minutes on the stairmaster after just to get in some more cardio work.

Gym Moments:

Sharif said he sparred with Ishe Smith yesterday, and beat up Ishe to the point where he spit in Sharif's face. Shairf said it wouldn't have happened had he not tried to knock Sharif out. He said Ishe's got no discipline.

He also speaks French. So Diego speaks Spanish and French, Sharif speaks Ugandan and French, and I'm speaking a bit of Ugandan and speak some Spanish (not nearly as well as Diego).

Now if only any of us could understand what Mike says when he has a mouth full of salad.

I was also talking to Dyah about his Pops. Then I told him I thought it was funny that Din Thomas while talking shit about Mayweather said "where all these Boxers at?" And Howard was standing behind him. "Well if you turn around Din, there's one." Dyah said it was ridiculous. In his words:

"Pfff, I used to put them hands on Din, he got no bidness callin' out Floyd just to get beat the fuck up."

Then there's the issue of waiting, but not just waiting TO punch, waiting for the other guy to finish. With his physical strength I'd like to see a bit more punching in between the other guy's punches. Every time he did do that the guy backed off. And finish combos with the jab, as opposed to pulling back a little tall. Even if the guy is firing back having waited for the combination to finish, the stiff jab will throw his timing off.

Martin/Some nucka.
Good stuff, thanks for the critique. I do want to start adding the jab at the end of combinations, and punching WITH the opponent is something I need to work on. Cheers.

Thursday - 7/17/08.

6:45am - Began the morning with the re-match of Corrales/Casamayor. Another very good fight with both men Boxing from range a lot more. This is the EuroSport broadcast and I have to honestly say it's the worst commentary I've heard in a long long time for a Fight. First, it's a glowing example of why a color guy ALWAYS needs a play by play guy, because it seemed this dude had ADD or something. Then, ALL he talks about is Casamayor, as if Joel put on some kind of a Boxing clinic while being out-thrown and out-landed in most of the early rounds. His score is absolutely atrocious. Listen for yourself:

Corrales/Casa II

7:30am - 1.8 mile run.

10:30am - Gym Time.

10 minute stretch.

1 round ring-jacks.

2 rounds Shadowboxing.

3 rounds body-snatcher. Mostly working my jab and using my reach.

3 rounds Heavybag. Working jabbing up and down mostly.

2 rounds double-end bag. Working on moving my hands continuously, shoulder started killing me here.

2 rounds speed-bag.

8 minutes rope-skip.

Conditioning:

Push-up circuit.

30 dips.

5 minutes twist-bar.

Gym Moments:

So Aaron Williams was slated to be on The Contender, and when I asked him about it he had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently his Manager mentioned possibly doing it and he hadn't found out yet. He then vehemently said he's not doing it. He said The Contender is for old people and nobodies. Mike was telling him that he might want to consider the exposure and money involved. He said in his day when no one wanted to Fight him he would do it just to get himself out there. But Aaron said he just wants to Fight his way to the top the old fashioned way.

Apparently Tye Fields' wife fired Jesse Reid, too. Stupid move for Tye if he's ever going to Box again, but word has it he's thinking it's over, and it's going to ass-rape everyone who has been paying all his bills all this time.

Was watching Ishe Smith spar with Said El Harak. Now I realize why Said's been a sparring partner for Pac, Margarito, Hatton, and others, and everyone but Pac and Margarito have sent him home (sent him home in a way that says a lot for him). From range he's kind of hesitant at times despite having very good hand-speed and reflexes. But whenever Ishe tried to lean on him he got back all he wanted and more. Said's very good on the inside.

Well, Said was putting a bit of whoopin' on him and he's a 140lb'er. Then the whole incident with Sharif. He's strong and CAN fight, just not sure about getting worked by smaller guys so much.

Oh and Don Juan's back in the Gym, so I'll probably be getting my ass whooped a bit more again. At least he's a Welter, though. lol

Still reading King. I've been getting ready for the wedding and the business is off the ground 100% now. I am putting the finishing touches on the site and you'll be receiving the shirts very soon. I'll be getting you and diego about 10 each.
