Bacon, are you reading this?

Now would be a great time to reccomend your patented vodka-gatorade mix for alcoholics looking to lift the next day.

Stonebreaker: What is this necessary supplement? I may need it. I am leaving for a golf trip at the Lake this weekend, and I may not be sober for Monday’s Deadlift.

- Played Wii. I still suck at tennis.

- Went to community pool in friend's sisters' housing complex. Luckily, we were the only one's there. Drank lots of beer, talked about everything, laughed our asses off at life in general. Good times.

This would be the worst decision I would make all trip
At around 2pm, we decided to head to our Hotel to check in. Problem is, there was 8 of us....9 if you count my buddy's sister. My truck seats 5..... Never underestimate a drunks ability to convince himself that something bad is a great idea. 9 of us piled into my truck. 6 in the seats, 3 in the bed. I then drove drunk, but surprisingly well to the Las Vegas strip. I'm still not sure if having people in the bed of your truck is legal in Vegas, but I didn't get pulled over. The beer gods shine upon me.

- Checked into the FLAMING-O. Otherwise known as the Flamingo Hotel and Casino. Flashed my military ID and got two executive rooms without the extra cost. My military ID is actually a government contractor ID card, but most people can't tell. Woot. The rooms are pimp, the pool is pimp. I, am a pimp.

- At this point in the trip, all the beer (and the carbonation therein) was making most of us lose our voices. Cue the liqour. I switched to Vodka and powdered gatorade. It makes for a strong drink, but damn is it tasty.

- At this point, we ate. First time all trip. The Outback Steakhouse blows. That is all.

- Ventured out in search of fun. Walked past O'Shea's ($1 beers) without a second thought. Made it .5 blocks from the hotel and found the Carnival Court Bar. Sweeeeeeet. It's an open air bar with a stage. This night, said stage had a cover band playing. Normally, I hate cover bands, but this one rawked. They covered all the good shit, Ozzy, Zeppelin, Tool, RATM...the list goes on. Carnival Court (CC) has some really shitty bartenders. Some say they're the best in the world, I wouldn't hire them to work in any bar I ran. They made Tom Cruise (from the movie Cocktail) look like a retard. They flipped bottles, juggled fire, did really nifty shit with bottles, blah blah blah. It was awesome the first time, but when you realize that they do this every fucking time you order a drink, you feel like killing yourself and everyone around you. GAWD DAMMIT! JUST GIMME THE FUCKING DRINK ALREADY! Save the side show for the casual drinkers. Thank gawd for flasks.

- My brother-in-law (BIL) ordered a yard glass of Long Island Ice Tea. I was so proud I could have cried. This drink contained almost a fifth of alcohol. It is not for the faint of heart. It's so large, they have to strap it to you with a lanyard. He didn't quite finish the whole thing....and he had help from other members of our group, but dammit, he tried like hell and for that, I applaud him.

- One of our crew vanished from the bar in the middle of the night.....but more on that later.

- I blacked out around 1am I think. I don't remember much after my BIL ordered the yard. I think I danced with a fat chick. I made it back to the room somehow. Good times.

More to come...

That's how a smart D&S vet drinks; replace those electrolytes AS you are pissing them out!
Stolen from Bacon's log, my emphasis added. I don't think there's any secret involved, merely throwing some powdered sports drink mix in with your alcohol to try to head off the next day's hangover.

To the best of my knowledge, though, there is nothing that is going to help lifting while still actually drunk. That just has 'disaster' written all over it.

I took Friday off and went to the Lake for a golf trip, which involved too much beer, whiskey, cigars and lack of sleep. I was not sure how today’s lifting would go, but I hit a few PRs today.

DL:

135x5
225x5
315x3
365x2
385x1
405x1
430x1 (+25 PR)
405x1 (slight hitch – the bar got stuck on my shorts)

I pulled my right upper abdominals on the PR, but the rep went up smooth.

Front Squat, ATG
135x5
185x5
225x5
245x5
245x5
245x5 (PR for my working sets)

My abs hurt a bit when I tried BOR – so I did some more front squats

280x3 (3 rep PR)
315x1 (PR- bar speed was fast)

Good day of lifting. In the next few weeks, I will try to pull 450.

BBBP:

135x5
185x5
225x5
250x5
250x5
250x4 (2 inches from lockout on rep # 5 – this was a bit disappointing)

Bar speed was fast up until the last rep.

SOHP:

115x5
135x5
145x5
155x3 (not good)

Push Press
185x1
205x1
225x0 (terrible - I mentally unready for this rep. The last thing I thought about was the weight flying behind my head last week).

GGBP:

185x5
205x5
210x4

This was a decent workout. I put a good effort on bench, but was a bit pissed/upset I missed the last rep on my final working set. The press was uninspiring, but I was a bit worn out from the bench.

Terrible workout today - I pulled a muscle in my left lower back today.

Back Squat

135x5
225x5
275x5
315x3
345x3 – felt twinge in left lower back, which I have hurt before. I immediately stopped.

I don’t know what caused this injury. It was extremely cold in the gym. It is possible that my body was not warmed up properly. I, however, was not squatting anything that is all that heavy for me. I did pull a DL PR and front squat PR on Monday. During the DL personal record, I pulled my right abdominal. My body may not have been ready for a heavy load again. I don’t know, but it is terrible frustrating. As I type this, my back tightening up pretty bad. Hopefully, it is nothing too bad and it won’t interfere with next weeks lifting.

I was limited in what I could do for the rest of the time at the gym.

Chin ups
2x bw +1 neg.
2x bw +1 neg.
1x bw + 1 neg for 8 more reps.

Assisted pull-ups - 6 sets of 5.

30 minutes on the Bike – I was trying to get blood flow to my lower back.

15 minutes of stretching.

+1 pissed off lifter.

Thanks for the support – It hurts like hell, but it is getting better. I could not move yesterday without a lot of pain. Today, the pain is a bit more tolerable. I have hurt my back in the same place before. As I result, I try to make sure that I always try to lift with good form, and warm up properly. This injury is very frustrating. I don’t think I am going to be able to DL on Monday.

Pull day:

I pulled a muscle in my lower left back and glut last Friday. The pull is slowly getting better, but there is still too much pain to do any heavy DL, BOR, etc.

Chins:
2xbw +1 neg.
1xbw +1 neg. x 8 reps.

I also did some assistant pull-ups (5x5) and lat. pull downs (3x8).

DL – I was trying to get some blood flow to lower back.
135x5
135x5
135x5
135x5

+10 minutes stretching

I am glad that I can actually do something today. I could not move off the couch on Saturday. My upper back strength still sucks balls, but I should be able to DL next week.

Push day:

My lower back is still pretty sore. It is very stiff, but the sharp pains of Friday and Saturday are more of a dull pain today (unless I move the wrong way). I don’t think I will be able to squat on Friday. I bought a foam roller, which hopefully will help in the long run. It hurts like hell.

I avoid the overhead press today to minimize the pressure on my back. My bench was ok given the circumstances – I was just glad to be pushing weight.

BBBP

135x5
185x5
225x5
250x3 - I was too concerned about my back to lift explosively on this set.
250x2 (- same problem – so I lowered the weight)
235x5 – I felt less pressure on my lower back.
240x5

Close grip BP

185x5
205x5
210x4
