It depends on what field they are working in mostly. A PhD in social work or education is not the same as a Ph.D. in mathematics or neuroscience. In my department, I think there are two or three people who fit that category. But - I think most analytic philosophy department is not very representative of what you are talking about. Most of the weak students fail to meet the ABD requirements. Still. I've meet a lot of dumbasses who are working on thier PhDs. If you work hard and are moderately intelligent, you can get a PhD with your advisor and committees’ help (they won't help you get a good academic job). It was the same thing with lawyers. There are a lot of people with law degrees that are (to be quite frank) dumb as fucking rocks.

I got pretty drunk after the meet a few weeks ago. My body was pretty fucked up and the alcohol was needed. I think that was the first time I’d been drunk in 6-7 months. Other than that I have a few beers here and there. I've been pretty busy with work so I have not been out much. But, since I turned in a large chapter to my advisor, I'm getting my drink on tonight.
