Fair enough - I will also try to another 1 rm test. My last one was in May. Where are you in our PP race? 230? or 235? I am at 235.
I am going to do a back squat max for Gready and my Church video at the end of the month. I also hope to put up 250 PP.

Have not tried over 225 in awhile, with my new job and mma my lifting has been kinda sporadic, i'll probably give it a whirl this week to see.

DL:
135x5
225x5
315x5
365x1
385x – big fucking pop in my lower back – It scared the shit of out me and I dropped the weight. It was not accompanied by any pain. I took about a 10 minute break. I felt no pain so I started pulling again.
365x1
365x1
Low Box Squats:
135x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
225x2
DL:
315x12 all singles – I was working on my form.
Postscript on back: During my golf league today, I bent over to pick up a club and got sharp pain in my lower back. I have no idea whether this was caused by today’s pulling or a result of my pre-existing back problems (or a little of both). It feels ok now, but is sore. I am calling to see a doctor tomorrow. I need to find out exactly what is wrong.

Heh. Funny. I had a big "pop" come from my lower back on a DL not but a couple weeks ago. No pain on my end, either, but my deadlifts for the day went rapidly downhill.
I didn't have any sharp pains later in the day, though. Medical advice is probably a good idea. Here's to hoping that it's nothing serious....

SB:
I feel better today, but I need to get it checked out anyway. After the "pop", my brain gave my body the signal to "not lift" any heavy load. Still, something is wrong. Post injury I can't pull at all. I want to make sure that there is nothing structurally wrong.

CGBP:

No over-head press – back is acting up again.
Notes on Back:
My back is acting up again. I heard a loud pop in my low back DL and later had some sharp pains in the lower back while golfing on Monday. I went to the doctor on Tuesday. The only way to know what is going on is to get an MRI. But, insurance only covers 80%, which is pretty fucking expensive for a grad student. I may have re-aggravated the sprain or I could have a bulging disk. The doc pointed out that even if I have a budging disk, I probably would not stop lifting completely (She is correct). I got an x-ray to see whether I have any compression fractures. What this means is that I have to go to physical therapy for the next 6 weeks. The physical therapist thinks that I have some strength imbalances in my core that are aggravating my back (and some posture issues). My smaller muscles in the core, such as the obliques, need to be strengthened. I am going to post my PT in this log, which will make sure that I actually do it. Plus, it makes me accountable to all anyone that regularly reads this log.
I am not sure where this puts me for my lift for Graedy. I don’t know whether I will be able to max out on back squats at the end of the month. I am going to have to see how I feel at the end of the month. If not, I may try for a front squat PR, which will put less stress on my lumbar region.

Damn man, hope 6 weeks is all you need to get things back in order. Try to take it somewhat easy on your back in the mean time, but i guess i'm probably not the best guy to talk to about not training when injured

thanks - I am going to spend as long as it takes to fix whatever imbalances I have and let my back heal. I may take some time off DL and work on power cleans. If you have any suggestions, I would glad to hear them.

What University are you working/teaching/studying at? A friend of mine got his PhD at SLU, and joked quite a bit about the tiny ($1? $10? something like that) co-pay he and his wife had to pay for all the care required for their first kid. Sure, they had to go through the SLU medical center, but there are far worse fates.
Bah. Suppose it doesn't matter. Sorry to hear about the back. Have you gotten the results from the X-Ray, or should we still be keeping our fingers crossed for a lack of compression fractures?

well, it will be interesting to read about your PT. Lately, here and there, I've been reading about strengthening the "anterior chain". I think Dan John mentioned it. As opposed to all the press the PC has been getting these last few years. As well I recall reading about core stability being a major priority, rather than flexion or rotation. After reading this, and considering all the Coan-Deadlifting I've been doing, I might start some Waiter Walks or Saxon Side bends.
I like these logs, they give a lot of good reminders on stuff to do/should do.
