On the Path (MMA)

Alright friends, It's time for me to make my intentions known and begin logging my path.
Thanks first to King Kabuki for helping me see the logic in this pursuit!

I'm knew to the board so this is probably a good introduction as well.

Age 25
height 6'2"
weight 206lbs

My Goals: to have the conditioning, the discipline, the ring/cage awareness, the punching accuaracy, and the toughness of a boxer with the ability to high kick, stuff takedowns, and GNP grapplers. And to have so much stamina that I can beat guys that are technically more skilled just by having more gas. I wanna fight, make the money, and bring home the milk!

My target weight class is 185lbs so that means I got to be ripped and defined like a boxer

My gear and training amenities: LA fitness for the weights & the heavy bags etc., Permission to use KING KABUKI's dungeon gym while he's in vegas, 1 pair of bag gloves, 1 pair of 16 oz boxing gloves, 1 jump rope, 1 pair 2.5lb wrist/ankle weights, 1 pair 5lb ankle/wrist weights, 1 pull up bar, 1 pair 25lb DBs, 1 pair focus mits, and 2 training partners from Nacao Capoeira (my Mestre and my friend Canoodo).

Saturday June 11th, 2006

Today was just an easy going day, spent a lot time looking at fight vids, HL reels, and reading up on supplementation. With that said monday is gonna be a freakin WAR!

throughout entire workout I wore the 2.5lb each wrist weights

2 mile run (really pushed the pace though, tried to puke the whole way! kept hands up, chin low, and eyes forward)

10 minutes sprint work (Run all out approx 45 seconds, and jog 15 seconds)
note: I thought Id blast through this 10 minutes easy because of the "on/off" , turns out after the 5th or 6th sprint I wasn't exactly sprinting anymore... So when 10 minutes were up I added a minute of all out running, imagining I was trying to finish someone in the last round of a fight.

2 x 3 min of skip rope

5 min shadow box (lots of movement and combinations) My shoulders felt fried with those little wrist weights by this point

12 pullups

weights off 5 min shadow box
damn wish my hands felt this fast all the time LOL

15 mins strechting

the end
What? You Tired Already!?!

I just want to mention that I am using a lot of knowlegde passed on by KK. And thanks to my correspondance with him I've got a great plan of attack for obtaining my goals, been presented with some possible future opportunities, and gained a whole lot of motivation and inspiration from a good friend.
I also have an awesome Capoeira Mestre, who I've know since 2001, He has been and is a vaulable source of knowledge as well as a great friend, I am and always will be a Capoeirista. And of course thanks to my Bro in Law; I am being exposed to BJJ/submission trianing, which I will definitely add more of in the near future.

I am going to be entering some Amature events next year, so this log will carry me through january 2007 (which is when I am going to be ready to seek out the Amature events). If all goes well I plan to fill 07 with WINS and then join up with KK and see what his people think of me.

for this last half 2006 I'll be hitting the dirt, and as KK suggest to all, RUN run a lot! I'll continue to train under the guidance of my Mestre with capoeira, grappling, and kickboxing. And to use a lot of boxing training techniques. I also will be signing up for some more in depth grappling and submission wrestling training later this year.

thanks to all for looking at my log.

Log continued...
Monday June 12, 2006

4 mile run

6 x 30-60sec sprints

5 mins skip rope with 2.5 lb wrist weights

3 x 5 min rounds shadow box with wrist wieghts

5 min practice high kick form (slow and controled with a couple seconds hold at top of kick)

20 min stretch (really pushed for new markers of flexibility, I mark my progess on the floor and the walls of my training room with my progress so I continue to push further each time)

45 min power nap (go ahead and laugh...)

Weights
went to gym for chest and tricep day workout

4 x 12 flat bench
4 x 12 hammer chest press
4 x 10 incline hammer press
4 x 12 incline DB press
4 x 12 chest fly (machine)
4 x 12 tricep pressdown
4 x 10 reverse grip tricep pressdown

Capoeira Training
Immediately after Weights

Light Jog with intervals of various footwork and drills around the room
example: begin jogging normal for approx 1 minute,
then backpetal for 1 min
side steps and/or side skips for 1 min
jumping jacks while moving foward 30secs
then jumping jacks moving backward 30secs
high step (knees come up as high as possible) 1 min
etc.
mix and match and change the order each class

human wheel barrow race (the person holding your feet up, pulls back on you to give resistance)
take 5 steps then 5 pushups then repeat 10 times

Combinations and floor movements

Roda (sparring)
In Capoeira we utilize kicking attacks, take downs, and floor movement etc.
so the sparring can be very MMA like where an opponent can wait for you to throw a kick or attack and can either counter or shoot for a take down, and we always go into grappling mode at that point.

the end

overall I feel great today little tired but I am glad I did my WORK
