Path to Becoming a Warrior

Hey, some quick basic information about me. I'm a first year pharmacy student and have been training BJJ for about 3 months now. Before I began BJJ, i had 2-3 years of heavy lifting. I went from 160-140 pounds during the course of college (From BJJ). However, I haven't touched a weight since September.

Age: 18
Height: 5'5
Weight: 140

This log is more for me so I can keep everything organized and look at progress.
I will be training BJJ 3x a week and doing a Ross type workouts 2-3x a week depending on my schedule and how I feel. It will be a little spontaneous due to me being a college student and pharmacy is intense.

So my weeks should look something like this..

My days for BJJ will be 3 days out of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday..
My workouts will be 2-3x a week on days that I'm not doing BJJ.
The rotations for my workouts would be

Session 1- Warrior Challenge
Session 2- Strength Workout
Session 3- GPP

Unless I'm stuck for time, these should be finished with either a Core Workout or a Finisher on a rotating basis.

Yesterday's BJJ Session. 1-24-2008

Learned a nice takedown counter to a regular headlock. Very practical for self defense purposes and is really easy to pull off since it is common for untrained people to go for headlocks.
After you get the takedown, our instructor showed a very nice transition to an armbar. Then we learned this sweep where your opponent would stand in your guard, you would then get two sleeve grips and push out their far leg with your same side leg while keeping ur foot right above their knee. As your doing this, wrap your opposite arm around their front leg and move your grip from your other hand to the hand around their leg and simply kick and sweep. Sounds complicated but if you can get it, its really effective.

BJJ Session 1-28-2007

Small class, really nice training session.
Learned a sort of "quick" armbar from guard where instead of grabbing their arm with two hands and putting it on your chest, you just get a sleeve grip, create an angle, scoop their leg, and get the armbar. If they are checking your hip, then go for the pendulum sweep. I was really able to nail the pendulum sweep today. I got it a few times when we were rolling and was also able to accomplish it on someone who outweighed me by 60 pounds during free-rolling. We also learned an omoplata from guard which was pretty cool. Before I attended this class, I was always placing my foot on the hip to push off the create the momentum which made the process a two step process. My instructor today instructed me to not push off the hip when your scooping the leg so it becomes a one step motion and really makes it more effective.

BJJ Session 1-29-2007

So this was a mixed class and man was this intense, especially in the morning/afternoon. We didn't do any techniques today, it was all drills. We kept switching off and doing rounds with fun things like the bottom man cant use any hands or can only use one hand. It was pretty good. Today was very humbling and showed me that I still need to alot of work. I really need to work on my guard passing. I was able to pull off a butterfly sweep and on this guy who is simply a bull. Was also able to pull off this cool triangle escape and end up passing the persons guard.

1/31/2008 BJJ Session

Wow, there were some GREAT moves shown today. It started off with learning two types of standing guillotines.
Then we did an omoplata when an opponent stood up from your guard.
We also did this sweep where you would go for the omoplata but instead of finishing the submission, you keep both grips on the arm and their leg and you simply roll over and they're swept. The next move was an armbar for when they roll over to escape. You block the shoulder with your knee and figure four your legs over their shoulder and their is the armbar.

The last move that was shown was pretty crazy, you're in the omoplata position except you go for the armbar. Your leg thats over the arm would go touch the floor while your foot is faced up, then you take your other leg and put it through along their chest, but scoop till their arm is extended towards their head and finish..

...Good stuff

I still have to figure out my S&C but with school going on, I can't really find a set schedule.
