Daggon's Training Log (MMA/Strength)

Hey guys I've posted a couple times in the S&P forum with a few stupid questions etc. and decided it was the right time to start a log.

I recently turned 18 and am a HS senior. I've been training MMA for a little over 2 years now and have had plenty of smokers matches and grappling tournaments under my belt. I really have never lifted seriously until about a month ago when I spent tons of time reading up on everything I could find to basically get as strong as possible. About 5 weeks ago I started a 5x5 program that I'll post below.

My last fight was in October '07 and I weighed in at 148. Since I'm 6'1, I am pretty skinny. However, I fought at 160 because in the local tournament there was no one for my weight and I still got 3rd, losing a decision. After that tournament I decided that I should go up to that weight or higher permanently, this time bigger and stronger.

As of right now I weigh 160 at 6'1 so slowly but surely I'm putting on the pounds. I have a fight coming up in a couple months or so and can't wait to get back in there. Since I just switched from pyramiding to volume this week because I miss-read the guide, these weights are a bit low compared to what I should do so keep in mind I'll be doing more next week. Anyways, here is my routine:

Tuesday:

Bench Press
125x5x5
Squat
175x5x5
Power Cleans
135x5x5

Thursday:

SOHP
85x5x5
Squat
175x5x5
Deadift
185x5x5
Pullups
3xfailure

Saturday:

Bench Press
125x5x5
Squat
175x5x5
Power Cleans
135x5x5

I don't know my single maxes but this is what I do know for maxing:

Squat
205x5
Bench
135x5
SOHP
105x5

Goals:

Nothing specific, I just want to be as strong as possible for MMA. My weight doesn't matter, getting bigger is a byproduct of being stronger, plus I'm still young and growing so I'm not too concerned over that. Overall I feel good about the gains I've made so far on the 5x5 and am going to continue on it for a while longer.

I could post a couple of my fight videos if you guys want but if not whatever thats cool too.

Totally forgot my training regimen, I train MMA on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, unfortunately the same nights I lift. This is because I have night classes and work every other time. Most of my training is switching off days or weeks of either standup training such as boxing or muay thai, grappling such as BJJ Judo or Wrestling, or MMA sparring/ exercises. I've trained for a little over 2 years like I mentioned above, and have actually been teaching a grappling class every Saturday morning for some extra cash. That's all I can think of for now but fee free to comment and if I have any questions I'll definitely ask.

Yesterday I improved on every lift and it seemed like a very good overall workout.

Bench Press
125x5x5
Squat
185x5x5
Power Clean
145x5x5

I felt like I cold even have done more on squats and bench, the power cleans were a bitch though

Post your vids if ya want. Always good to watch.

A recommendation for your workouts - add in a horizontal rowin' motion (bent over rows/dynamic rows/somethin' like that) to counter balance your bench press. Also, I wouldn't do the same liftin' workout twice a week. If you feel like you should, I'd drop the poundages on the bench and squat and do 'em as dynamic effort insteada max effort.

How about switching power cleans on the saturdays with BORs? Do you think that would be fine or should i change the last day even more?

New numbers from tuesday:

Bench
135x5x5

not too bad, the last set was tough but doable

Squat
195x5x5

This was really tough but I did it so I'm happy
