New guy-powerlifting
Are there any powerlifters on this site? I was guided here when i googled the Coan/Phillipi Deadlift routine. I'm 58 years old, yeah, that's right, 58, 210#, 6' even and lift with Carpenter Powerlifting team out of Dubuque Iowa. My bench is 350 unequipped, 415 with a lifting shirt, and my deadlift is 430. I have the UPA record in the squat-325, bench-375, and deadlift-425. I live 125 miles away from where the Team trains and rarely have the time/money to make the drive to train with them.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to improve my performance/ my next meet is push-pull in November, and plan on a 425 unshirted bench and a 500 deadlift. At least those are my goals. Any help will be appreciated.
And call me suicidal, but I train without a spotter. My records are with the UPA and can be verified on upa-iowa.com.
Thanks for allowing my post, guys.

You could continue to post here and it would be your online lifting team. In fact, there are two or three teams of forum members competing in a squat contest right now. Most of the posters on here are powerlifters or into strongman. Keep this thread and make a log of your lifting and experienced lifters can give you pointers and less experienced guys can learn (either from your success or from your mistakes!).

You're with Carpenters Team? Were you just at Summer Bash (APF)?
I lift for Dick Zenzen out of DeKalb, IL.
Welcome

Welcome!
Not a powerlifter but I do train the squat and deadlift.
Honestly at any age suicidal tendencies are not good. The guys on the board usually recommend saw horses and a homemade bench. If your not financial strapped just just a power rack and bench.
As far as the benching goes. Without the above I'd recommend doing weight dips and weighted push-ups (you will probably need a partner to assist you on this). Mix in some plyometrics and you should be good. Bands and or rings may work if you can secure them to a sturdy structure (but a power rack would probably be best for this).
Right now I am substituting a power clean & push press complex in lieu of the bench press. I'll see how this carry's over to the bench in a couple of months.
Car pushing and some other strong man type work may help if you don't have an adequate gym nearby. In general don't neglect your cardio and general physical preparedness (GPP).
Good luck!
PS Private Message WinterIsComing about the Summer Squat Contest. I am on the alternate team. Contest concludes in late September.

You want to put 75 lbs on your unequipped bench in 3 months?
You're either crazy, or...naw, you're just crazy. I like that. Let me know if you need some specific bench help, Mr. Boyce.
And welcome.
