My Boxing log

what it is yo?
I'm an amateur boxer who is somewhat out of commission. I had tymanoplasty surgery to repair my ear drum a week ago. I went back to the doc today and he said I could workout, but can't spar for the rest of the month.
I'm not too enthusiastic of a runner, but since I can't spar I really plan on starting to run more. Now before my surgery I could last forever. I was all into lots of sports-specific conditioning and sparred hard with everyone in the gym.
However, I wasnt really faithful with my roadwork and strength training. So, I'm taking this opportunity to rededicate myself to that aspect of training and carry it over when I start to spar again. Since I can't spar for the rest of the month I don't plan on fighting again until late April or early May depending on how I look when I start back sparring.

I also decided to run in a 5k race on April 30th. I've never done anything like this before and I'm really just doing it for fun and to have an incentive to keep up with my roadwork.

Today was my first day back, didn't do all too much but pushed myself pretty hard nonetheless.

Shadowbox 5 rounds
stretch/warm-up exercises
fast paced jump rope drills 15 minutes
5 rounds heavybag
run 3 miles.

Sunday

Foot not bothering me as much, but still giving me a little bit of trouble

4 rounds shadowboxing, focusing on jabbing and angles, keeping weight on back foot, and getting full extension on my punches, keeping hands up, etc.
run 1 mile
10 X 10 heavybag drill 3 rounds
3 rounds heavybag, focusing on combinations w/ lots of jabs and movement, & getting full extension on my straight punches
20 minutes footwork, lateral movement, and jabbing drills

back to full throttle tomorrow.

It's amazing how a little exercise and music can lift your spirits, I was feeling depressed today until I worked out.

frustrating

its getting really frustrating seeing everyone sparring and watching boxing on tv knowing I cant get in the ring and spar until April.. I'm just itching to get back in there. I think this is good for me though because I should really be blazing when I finally get back in there.

My last fight I think I was on the verge of being burned out as I hadn't taken any time off in about 3 years.
