I am extremely comfortable with an advancing or "leaping" hook, though. Ask Standard
Not quite as grounded/powerful, but you can sneak it in VERY often and still get a lot of trunk rotation for pop, and by working a little shove off you can really create your ideal distancing. Let me know how it works for you

Hmm. I'm not much of a leaper with my right-hook. Which is why I probably prefer the uppercut. When I throw my hook I always want to throw it check-style, pulling back slightly. But I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Yeah, I generally like the check hook as well, and often will use a power jab to work in, then a pitterpat right hand just to work my body into position and angle my foot to set up the hook. My right hand is shit anyways unless I'm ripping an uppercut super close so I generally just use it to aligned my feet and body for a technically sound check hook.

Word. You ever do the jab, slide back with the pull-back, pivot outward and then check-hook?
That works WONDERS against either come-forward brawlers, or little speedy fucks who like to leap with every single punch.

Yeah man, when I'm coasting I'll work that in as it basically puts my body in the position it would be in after the pattycake 2 without the effort or heightened risk

Just a couple hairs under 6'1", yeah, why?
Wednesday, February 27th
AM - Roadwork
4.3km cross-country ski trail run
Snow makes this a lot harder, I'm basically high-stepping for the duration, it's good work.
Finisher:
-20 box jumps
-10 push-ups
-repeat 10x, no rest
PM - Boxing Training
5-minute jump-rope warm-up (alternating 15 seconds double-unders/15 seconds criss-crosses for the full 5)
2 rounds shadowboxing
5 rounds punch shield with Rory (working line drill pyramids; Rory stands at one end of a 10 meter stretch, I start the other and rythm forward behind feints and jabs, and when I reach him I throw whatever step of the pyramid we're working on, angle off, weave under his left hook to square me again, rythme back, and repeat... Worked single power shots 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, mostly uppercuts, left hooks and crosses)
4 rounds double-end bag (quick-tap combinations in contrast to the power focus of the last drill, Rory still with me calling out 6-7 punch combinations)
3 x 10 pull-ups
3 rounds speedbag (just a sprinting circle punch kind of burn-out)
