Friday, October 5th

AM - Roadwork

light jog warm-up

4 x 300m interval runs (40 seconds rest between each)

4 x 200m sprints (30 seconds rest between each)

5 x 100 sprints (jog backwards to start line)

PM - Boxing

shadowboxing warm-up

6 rounds heavybag work (jab is usually my weapon of choice, but it felt very powerful and quick today. Again worked on rolling the uppercut off of the jab a lot; 1-4-3-2-1, 1-4-2-3b-3, 1-4-3-4-3-2-1, etc. Spent every second round emphasizing body work, especially the 1-2-2-3b-6b)

4 rounds 10 x 10 punch-out drill (alternating uppercuts and straight punches each round)

4 rounds muscular endurance drills (alternating planks, wall-sits, and neck bridges for 3-minute rounds)

finisher:
-5-minute sandbag carry (drop and re-shoulder every 6 steps. Overhead carry for last 60 seconds... brutal)
5-minutes working long overcrushes with crappy store-bought grippers (60 seconds at a time)

Sunday - Off

Monday, October 8th

AM - Roadwork

2-mile run

50 push-ups + shadowboxing to cool down

PM - MMA (boxing gym closed for holiday)

2 x 5 minute rounds conditioning work as follows (all holding a 45lbs plate):
-30 seconds zercher squats
-30 seconds weighted wall-walk
-30 seconds zercher duck-walk
-30 seconds russian twists
-30 seconds farmers carry (one plate per hand)
-30 seconds depth plyo pushups (cinder blocks on the outside)
-30 seconds bent-over rows
-30 seconds heavybag shoulder/slam + 5 sprawls
-30 seconds overhead plate rotations
-30 seconds dumbbell sit-up-and-stand
REST 30 seconds. Repeat.

10 x 2-minute rounds free rolling

notes: Didn't get submitted, though I gave up position like a tool going for silly omoplatas and triangles that weren't even close a few times. Single/double leg seemed "on" tonight. I've come to realise they are similar to throwing body punches in that they are risky, require a level change, need you to drive through the target, and definitely won't work unless you bite down ony our mouthpiece and commit to them. I was hesitant before but now I'm drop-stepping in well and usually ending up in side mount. Got a good bunch of subs; paintbrush from side mount, few armbars, RNC, and shoulder lock from scarf hold.

8 x 2-minute rounds stand-up sparring

notes: A couple pussies in there tonight were annoying me. I was putting ZERO snap on my shots and this one Chris dude was whining all night. Placed a 2-3b perfectly on this guy Jordan though, not any mustard on it, but it landed right behind the right nipple and he dropped hard. Felt bad but he knew it wasn't a bullying/overdoing it thing, just unlucky placement for him, and he took it like a champ. Meanwhile Chris is bitching about the jab he keeps walking into c'moooon. Anywho, mostly worked on movement and my jab to keep my distance, walking guys into uppercuts if they tried to smother my range. Fired many, many bodyshots tonight. Didn't have a chance to work my head mmovement unfortunately

Chris has always been a go-hard when we're sparring. He generally tries to decapitate me after getting annoyed with my reach. I think I've mentioned him before, he's the guy who I've dropped with 2s to the body after he tried to murderize me (with MMA gloves on no less)

Anyways, the round starts, I keep pecking him with the jab, he tries to walk me down but I'm sticking him and he's not getting inside. I feint a jab and he tries to rush in off it and I walk him into an uppercut. Nothing on it, just enough to lift his chin, but he walked into it/didn't see it coming so he backs off and says "Man why don't you ease off a bit this is sparring". I apologize and go back to just touching him with straight punches while he plods along and whiffs. He gets frustrated and says something similar again, round ends, he goes and says something to one of the other guys and eyeballs me until it's time for the a partner switch.

He's usually a decent guy but man, show some balls, here. I should have logged it as technical sparring because it was probably 50-60% if that... if he can't handle that then he's got problems on the horizon. I mean some of the guys were treating it as a glorified bit of shadowboxing, circling and pawing with jabs and basically taking turns punching. I'm not a power-puncher or anything, not even CLOSE, and I was going VERY light. Nobody else complained.
