Rolling

Rolled with Andre (brown belt) and managed to survive and do alright. It felt good to be put on the defensive because, by now, I have no serious fear of any other white belts and feel dead even with most blues. Had no problem with the other guys there and, once I get over my hesitation with trying to take the back and just go for it, I'll be much more successful. Good rolls with some other a few of the guys.

Everybody who was any good quit wrestling after two rounds so I wasn't able to get in the rounds that I wanted to with the people that I wanted to. Overall, a decent night.

Kickboxing Sparring
4x3min. rounds (i hate kickboxing)

Rolling
Rolled against one of the new fighters at my school and caught him in a nasty kneebar. He had no idea how to handle my halfguard and I passed his guard with easy after sweeping. I need to remember when I am sweeping to watching my neck as I leave it open for guillotines a lot and, although I'm alright at defending them, I shouldn't put myself in there in the first place


Notes: Taking advantage of my time off and choosing to wrestle and spar more than lift weights. In a few weeks when I start teaching again, I'll go back to my usual life/condition 3-4x/week and jiu-jitsu 2-3x/week.

Friday, August 1st 2008

Good: Helped move into a new facility today. Roughly 8 times larger than the last place. Can't wait to train there.

Bad: Might have to quit my lifting gym membership. Means roughly 2-3 weeks without squats until school starts and I have access to a rack.

Jiu-Jitsu / Rolling

Got there late so no technique.

Wrestled 6x3min. rounds

Did very well against everybody. The half-guard is out of control, but I still need to start working my half guard harder and with more intensity. I swept/submitted. took the back against everybody today when in half guard but I just didn't feel like I was really pushing myself. Barely broke a sweat.

Notes: Old DL PR was 450 so doing 425 for 5 singles make me pretty confident. Got dark much earlier than I thought it would. Had to cut out rows and shrugs just to do the prowler before it got pitch black out.
