Jiu-Jitsu

Arm drags and butterfly guard

Rolling

Wrestled with other new guys. Really focused on starting on my back and working my half guard sweep. I need to start working some different half guard sweeps as well.

Did some drilling with movements on the swiss ball. I can see why guys like galvao use it so much. Andre, our new brown belt teacher, is really good with using it as a training implement.

QMGPP
: 50 kneeling ab rollouts

GPP:
3x4x40m Prowler Sprints

Jiu-Jitsu
Butterfly Sweep
Reverse Butterfly Sweep (opponent defends)
Triangle from Butterfly (opponent really bases out on both sides)

Rolling

Buncha rounds and really wasn't as explosive or aggressive as I needed to be. I really need to explode with my half guard sweeps and not creep them and let the guy know it's coming so much.

Notes: Can't wait to start training in the mornings next week.

Strength

DB Snatch
2x8x35.. warmup
3x 50, 60, 70, 80, 90
1x100.. PR

Romanian DL (3x12x225)

QMGPP: 5x20 squats (hamstrings are very sore)

3pm

GPP / Recovery:
  • 2x120m Prowler Pulls w/ new Spud, Inc. sled strap
  • 1.25mi jog
Notes: Hamstrings still sore as heck. hopefully, these help a bit.

7pm

Jiu-Jitsu (gi)

Butterfly sweeps - get hips under opponent and slap the elbow on the side you're sweeping to in order break posture

Rolling

Feeling exhausted and claustrophobic wrestling in the gi so much. Feel like I haven't done nogi in a while and although I'm doing alright, I'm feeling really out of shape. Gotta start watching the diet more (weighing 206 right now) and doing more with the prowler.

Nice PR on the DB Snatch. I'm looking at a local gym soI can do more of that stuff. The gym, I work at has limited weight (55) but has tons of bumper plates.

I've seen some pretty cool vids of people using these for positioning etc.

I finally learned a sweep yesterday, a real one that isn't me just muscling my way over. I need a Gi, big time.

agreed. i've been training mainly gi for months now and won't start focusing more on nogi until around august. it's VERY frustrating being controlled by somebody else in the gi but it forces you to use much better technique when escaping positions and submissions.

i read it recently and i agree that nogi is more defense friendly (speed, sweat) and gi is more offense friendly (grips, chokes, etc.)

Jiu-Jitsu

Half guard pass to scarf - focus on using my head to control opponent's head
Knee on belly to far side armbar - stay tight and lift opponent on their side placing shin behind their back

Rolling

Wrestled with everybody there and seemed to have trouble submitting a few of the guys. Appears that almost everybody is wise to my half-guard sweeps and my kimura from north-south. Gotta try working some new stuff.

Got two olympic bars, a curl bar, two olympic dumbells and 510# in plates for 80 bucks on craigslist. NIIICE. GREAT beginning to my home gym.

Strength

ME Chins
2x3xbw
3x10
1x 10, 25, 45, 60, 65

Pullup Negatives (4x8x5sec.)
DB Rows (4x8x110)

Swimming: A bit of just swimming around, then about 6 sprint laps.

Notes: Not enough warmup on the chins and I really seem to go through the entire motion easily and then struggle at lockout. Did this entire workout in 30 minutes, so not too bad. Also, my new oly dumbells can go way past what my gym has so now my db rows can increase in difficulty.

Holy shit! $80? Even with shipping (which would be a bit) that's still pretty fucking sweet.

You getting it?
