Thanks, for the vid and the write up. That's awesome.

Exactly what John (the teacher) was saying.

Dragon:
Thanks for the vid man. And ya, I'm really liking the jiujitsu. I was thinking of fighting Muay Thai again in Oct, but I may do an ammy pancration or grappling match instead.

weights and jiujitsu

just wanna know how much lifting heavy weights hinders your flexability at jiujitsu? and i see one of your goals is to work the open guard better......i got the solution...try a little more of the de la riva hook youll love it combined with the spider guard.

lifting weights doesn't hinder flexibility whatsoever.

what has hindered it is spending more time lifting weights than working on my flexibility.

typically people point to weightlifting as the culprit of being inflexible, but really it's just that, typically, weightlifters don't spend enough time working on flexibility.

QMGPP: 50 bw squats

Strength

Floor Press
2x5x95
3x 135, 155, 185, 205.. close grip
3x 205, 225, 225.. normal grip
0x250 (dumb)
1x everybody in the gym coming over to see what happened when I bailed (read: the bar fell 2" to the floor)
1x225
1x240.. just under PR

Corner BB Press (10x45, 3x8x90)
100x green band pulldowns
Lateral Raises
Read Delt Fly

Notes: Ate at 6am and lifted at 2pm and ate nothing in between. poor choice. also, the lack of pressing seems to have stalled my lifts a bit. we'll see again next week when I go for more reps and less 1rm on the floor press

Exactly. Muscles are meant to contract, and expand. Do both.

I think Siff has an article about lifting through a full range of motion as well, to promote strength AND flexibility.
