NAGA Chicago 2008
yessir.
Nogi
First match - No warmup. There were only 3 novices instead of the usual 20ish so their division went REALLY fast and as I weighed in at 189.5 I was up first to wrestle (highest weights go first). I went up against a good white belt from Jeff Curran who was a very good wrestler. I couldn't take him down so I jumped guard. He turtled up in my guard and waited for me to open it to submit him. I pressed the action and he just waited and passed my guard. I recomposed and he turtled again in my guard until the end of the match. Lost on points 2-0.
Gi
First match - jumped guard, guy went to pass and i went to my knees and ended up sweeping him to his half guard. Won on points 2-0.
Second match - Jumped guard, went for armbar, he defended, went for omoplata sweep and ended up taking him down in a scramble. Passed his guard. Won on points 4-0.
Third Match (semi) - Went up against the same guy that I did the flying kneebar against at my last tournament in march. I faked a shot and he jumped guard. I went for a double-underhook pass and he triangle my head. Luckily he only got it on my temple so I could breathe just fine. Put my knee in his butt and worked my head out. Passed and held him down for like 2 minutes. Went for kimuras from north/south near the end but time expired.
Fourth (finals) - Guy shot and I defended and reversed him to pulling half guard. I passed his half guard by letting him make a butterfly hook then pinning his knee to his butt. Passed to side mount, then north-south, then kimura for the win.
Notes: I should've attempted some leglocks or a guillotine in nogi. Should've worked to submit more in gi. I laid on people and, honestly, it was sorta pathetic. Can't believe I won.
