10 hours of sleep last night so I feel alright, but not as good as if I would've slept Monday night. Decided I needed intensity today instead of heavy lifting.
Interval Runs:
6x400m
5x50m
On a side note, I think it's time to start getting this routine a bit more organized. I have been running intervals whenever I want and GPP and heavy lifting is all mixed up. Frankly I feel like I'm wasting my time if I don't set a schedule and stick to it.
Jiu-Jitsu (gi):
- Guard Pass from double leg - when opponent pushes head away, take legs to same side head is being pushed and jump cross body to land in I-position, or take legs opposite side and do a 'barrel roll' over their arms (both options are great)
- Some foolish spider guard sweep that I don't think I'm ready to use...
MMA sparring:
real gut check tonight for somebody who's felt like a pussy lately. Did 2x5min. rounds with Miguel and really worked my takedowns. Got a compliment on my haymaker to shot.. Really want to work that more. Only got caught flush in the face twice.
Things to work on: check leg kicks, not closing my eyes, keeping my neck out of guillotines. I can defend most of them well enough, but not Miguel's.

damn you do alot of training.
What punch are you throwing for the haymaker? overhand right i would guess? If so try leading with a jab to the body, followed by the OHR and then the shot.

yeah man, i throw the overhand right just to get them covering up their face. I'd love to lead with a left straight to the body but I feel that as soon as I throw that, my opponent is starting to counter and it ruins the sequence.

I dunno man I'd give it a shot, even just the body jab straight to the shot. It can be a deceptively quick and tough-to-counter punch. An experienced guy will time you with a right hand IF you throw it consistently, but otherwise you're fine, most guys are only able to block it, and even then it gets through for me more often than not. If you have a long reach it's tough for them to counter because their basically at the end of your long jab unable to advance with their return fire.... plus you can already change levels to throw the body jab, so the shot would flow into it that much easier.
Could do the same with the straight right to the body... then it'd set up some good shot/body punching feints you could keep them guessing with.
Just brainstorming here

I don't know how effective the jab to the body would be to set up the shot though, just because it brings your opponents attention down which would better prepare him for sprawling. Unless you used the OHR right to follow it up periodically which would probably be best. If he commits to block the OHR he is open for a takedown, and if he goes from to defend the takedown he could get knocked out, all the time the jab to the body is distracting him and getting him out of his regular stance.
The more i think about it the more i like the jab to the body as a set up, you drop levels so the shot becomes easier and your still able to deliver a power punch to the head.

Yeah, and remember you're in range to touch him with your jab, so your drop step is gonna be pretty deep, too. I just think the transition would be seamless, from the "contact" position of the body jab, you can drive a second time off your back foot and drop that lead knee and bam, you're shooting in. We'll try it out monday maybe

I've been watching some stuff on youtube lately and I saw a Brandon Vera seminar and he was making the class tell him what the most important thing he said all class was and they all chimed in:
"Make them respect your hands."
I really think that by making my opponent respect my body jab-overhand right combo as a combo that could possibly damage them, the easier the shot will be. You can't have a good ground game in mma if they don't respect your hands first. Unless you have an insane shot, like sherk or hughes... which I do not..... not even close.

Finally began my path to being the conditioning menace that I want to be
GPP:
5 rounds (no rest):
30sec. burpees
30sec. jumping jacks
30sec. knee strikes
30sec. shadow box
Felt really good, didn't feel intense enough meaning I wasn't doing it hard enough. Interval sprints and core tomorrow. Double Jitsu on monday and workout capacity 101 on tuesday... niiiiice.
