Saturday

Boxing,
BJJ - Odd armbars/Triangles

Sunday

Lifting
5x5x175; My first true Bench workout since tearing my cuff a month ago. Felt fine. Weight was light too. Good to see I didn't get very weak.

5x5 BW Pullups; Still dicey, I couldn't pull to mid chest and using anything but a neutral grip still gave me a lot of tightness at the top of the pull.

Tried some front squats and GM to see how my back felt. Not a great idea as my back was mad all day for that.

New plan for my legs/back. Rest it. Novel Idea I know. Stretching exercises, ab work, and any of the few lifts I can still do (Front squat, lunges, possibly Cleans though my shoulder still wont allow it). No deads, back squats, GM, HYpers, or nothing till the pain starts to receed. Once I can do a lift pain free I'll do it. Again, not a novel concept, something I probably should have done when I first hurt it a million years ago.

I hate my body. Not in the way that teenage girls do. I mean I really want to destroy myself. I'm just biding my time until the robot bodies come out...

Re-injured my shoulder leaving me unable to bench/dead. It's not so bad so I should be back in a week.

Injured my hip. What is wrong with it? That's a very good question, even though I only feel it when I try to squat it still hasn't healed one iota in 2 weeks.

So now the only lifting I can do is bicep curls. Excellent.

This is the only thing that gives me hope.,

Go up two posts. That's what I did today.

Except I couldn't finish the last rep of the 5x5. 6 weeks off will do that to you.

Hip is getting better but still ***gy. Hopefully I can squat on saturday.

Also did
2x10x45 cuban press
2x10 External cable rotations.

Shoulder felt decent, now that school started i can actually do my rehab.

Wow, those are some lofty goals for squat and DL (and age). Hopefully you'll be alright and can start going heavy on those lifts again. You've got too many injuries for a 22 y/o.

At least you can do bicep curls to keep teh gunzors in tip-top shape.

Haha, well at the time I wrote those goals I had no idea if I would ever be able to squat or DL again so just being able to do it was my goal. I'm pretty sure that's not the case, though I don't know how often I'll be doing heavy squat/DL.

And my gunz are in the greatest shape of my life. I've put on 2 pounds this week, all bicep vein.

Thursday
Wrestling - Scissors sweep - Posted Mount - Single wing choke/Armbar - Back triangle

Friday

So I deadlifted for the first time in 2 months today. I think I feel alright, I probably should have iced my back though.

3x135
3x185
3x225
3x275
Good up to this point however...
1x305
Yeah this sucked. I've never deadlifted with quite this bad of form. I somehow managed to lock my knees halfway through the lift. I decided not to go any heavier today and do couple more reps to iron out my form.
3x225

I got less leg drive as I got heavier. I think this is in part do to a nagging hip injury (even though I shouldn't feel it unless I squat parallel) and not being comfortable driving off my heels.

Whatever, first day back. Everything seems alright. My shoulder is almost healed (I need to test some OHP to be sure) and my hip is a lot better. I'm looking to compete in a grappling tourney in mid september but my shoulder would have to be nearly perfect for that.

Thanks for the support.

If you want to compete in MMA (or any other martial art) you need to change the way you think about resistance training. It can be very hard at first, but if you look at what the top guys are doing it's all about training movement, not muscle group. Look into Core Performance by mark verstegan. The system has changed my life, my body, and my performance on the mat.

Sorry dude but I read a book (by a very handsome man) about how to pick up girls on the beach and I've been doing the bicep curls and chest flyes religiously ever since. My upper pecs have such incredible definition I spontaneously ejaculate every time I see myself in a full length mirror.

Of course my lower pecs are lagging behind a bit. Since you seem to be "in-the-know" let me ask you, do you think that I should start doing the pec deck to compensate?

Thanks!
