Know what you mean.

I'm living in one place driving 170 miles roundtrip each day. Tough on home life.

Welcome back.

Thanks, LPF4. And man, that's a tough drive. I did a 90 mile each way daily commute for a bit. That sucked. Of course I was getting paid mileage.

Went and checked out a new gym tonight.

www.dallasjiujitsu.com

The gym is in a slightly bad part of town, a lot of the equipment is worn, and it needs a lot of work. So far, I'm impressed. The gym has a 24x24 ring and a cage built by the head instructor. They seem serious about training there and end every class with some sparring. The owner talked to me about CrossFit and he'd heard of Ross.

I'm going back on Monday to try taking a class. They weren't training tonight because the ring needed to be put back together after an exhibition. I was planning on training tonight but I'll just save my energy for my Warrior Challenge tomorrow. Thinking about doing a Work Capacity 101. Pray for me. ;)

Work Capacity 101 (modified for pussies)

4 pull-ups
10 dumbbell swings
7 burpees
20 jumping jacks

I got all ten sets and kept it under 20 minutes. Man, I can see myself getting up to ten burpees but 15 just seems impossible.

Explosive strength day:
Two dumbbell split snatch
3x36lbs
3x36lbs
3x36lbs
3x36lbs
3x36lbs

Two dumbbell push press
3x46lbs
3x46lbs
3x46lbs
3x46lbs
3x46lbs

Complex pairs:
One hand dumbbell bench press
5x46lbs per arm

8x clapping push-ups

rest 45 seconds

60 second wall squat

10x jumping squats

Repeated the above 4 times.

Finisher:
Throw 5lb medicine ball as high as I can for one minute.

My explosive strength sucks. I can only push press slightly more than I strict overhead press.

Welcome back, you've missed a lot. You should read the 2007 year-end recap, it's pretty hilarious.

If you can only push press slightly more than your strict I would suggest focusing on your form and really make sure you're using your legs for proper leg drive

Thanks, I'll have to search for it. This is one of the few forums where the humor is actually worth digging for.

Thanks. I'll try. I think I just don't have much acceleration(explosive strength) in my legs. Which isn't too surprising when I think about it. I've only become aware that explosive strength is different from maximal strength in the past year. God bless Ross.

Tried some free classes tonight. Boxing and jiu jitsu.

My jiu jitsu rolling partner told me I was fast and strong, so that was nice. It made me feel a little better about being subbed twice. Of course he was 190, all muscle and has a couple years experience to my zero, so I didn't feel too bad.

Last night's workout ended up being quick.

Bench:
15x135
15x135
13x135(WTF? Disgusted with self.)

Pull-ups(Explosive, pulling to mid-chest):
6xBW
6xBW
6xBW

Straddle deadlift:
135x5
185x5
275x1
345x0
325x0
315x0
295x0
I have no clue. 275 didn't feel very hard at all. I was totally confident I could get more but I got a big bucket of teh fail last night.

Yesterday's workout:

3 tire flips
7 burpees
20 sledgehammer swings

Repeat at the start of the next minute.

First time I got to use my tire in a workout. Whoohoo! Made it through 5 repetitions. Tire flipping is hard. I was surprised it got to me so much more than pull-ups in Work Capacity 101.
