Thursday April 02 - PM session
BJJ #8
Worked alot of halfguard. Tried a few things from bottom which I saw in Eddie Bravo's MTRG book. Couldn't get up to one side so I couldn't hit the sweep I want but atleast I have an option now. I really need to watch some videos online but i dont really have the free time at the moment.
Got submitted by one of our whitebelts a fair few times, I need to work on my gi choke defense, I'm getting caught by everyone and it sucks.

JLPT 3 seemed pretty easy. After a year of study followed by a year of just being here I looked over a test from the previous year and it was pretty doable. JLPT 2 looks like I'll actually have to really study instead of just talking to people.
How's your neck strength? Do you do anything in particular for that?

i like the boring but big template for that. some days i'm feeling 5 sets of 185, and other days 5 sets of 205 for squats. and it depends on where your strength is. for me, 5x10x300lbs. for deadlift is not enticing. i might die. but I can do a few sets at 300 and a few at 250.
foz, i'll try to put together some half guard stuff for ya.

yeah I'm just going to rotate it on days I feel keen. Like a monday I feel fresh because I don't do any BJJ on Sunday so I might do the BBB template then, but other days I'm usually pretty f__ked so, sticking to 3 here and there.
Cheers for the half guard stuff man I'd appreciate that. I noticed some of the stuff i was trying last night wasn't too effective because eddie's stuff was nogi based and obviously guys were just stopping me from coming up the side by grabbing my gi. bleh.

I don't do anything specific for it no? Whys that dude?
oyaji/ghost can I ask you did either of you do an exchange to JPN through Uni before you went there for work? Part of me is tossing between going for 6 months/a year, knowing that it will improve my japanese in the long run, and after I finish my degree I may want to live in Japan as well, and the other half knows I'd potentially give up my BJJ/weights/other little parts of my life to go there just to study for that time. Theres no guarantee the Uni i choose will have a good gym, or i'd have $ for a membership either. I'm not quite sure what to do.

I'm thinking I might hey.... but lots of stuff just rolling around in my head. I can either go in Semester 2 of 2010 (around september), but I can't get into alot of Universities with second semester admittance. I'm checking with the exchange co-ordinator if I can go in Semester 1 (April) of 2011.
Here's a list I can attend
* Fukushima University
* Hitotsubashi University
* International Christian University
* Keio University
* Kobe University
* Kochi University
* Komazawa University
* Kyoto University of Foreign Studies
* Kyushu University
* Shimonoseki City University
* Sophia University
* Tokai University
* University of Kitakyushu
* Waseda University
Any suggestions?
Those are the ones I can attend from - Japan - UQ Abroad at The University of Queensland - though there are some on this link I can't attend like Tsukuba/Tokyo U, etc, so just included ones I can go to.

Go for it, I've trained more in Japan than I ever did back home. As a student all I did was study Japanese and bang my girlfriend, I had no money. She was hot too, Japanese-Brazilian chick.
Almost all of those universities will be the same, it really depends on the profs and your own attitude. I've seen students bitch about schools with amazing, absolutely dedicated and professional professors. And I've seen people absolutely thrilled to be studying at a shitty ass backwoods school with racist teachers and administration.
Sophia or ICU would be the "best" probably mainly because their standards are American (world class) and not Japanese (good enough to look good).
Kyudai is ghetto. They may have good teachers, I don't know. Actually, I think they just opened up some new buildings this year on a new campus. Their old campus in downtown Fukuoka was an abandoned high school. Kyushu, as in the island, is sweet if you like BJJ and the outdoors. And Japanese rednecks.
