5x5 front squats

My technique is coming along OK.
------------------------------------

In boxing news, when my 6 month contract is up, I have to leave my gym.

Not because I want to (I have so much to learn) but:

a: cost of gas, I now pay more for my monthly gas than I do my monthly gym membership.

b: I have taken a second job, so my free time will be even less than normal.

At least I will have a year of training under my belt.

All I need to do now is find a place to train that is:

- Free
- Next door to my house

= Means I am screwed.

So I will just keeping praticing myself and hoping to get better.

My cross was crap. I need to work on it.

In bad news: I am getting some pain in the last place I had a hernia.... Not happy.

Front squats (light day) and RDL.

These front squats felt like the best I have ever done. Maybe I am finally getting how do to them.

In good news, for my birthday I get to buy more weights.

I did nothing Monday or Tuesday. (I pulled something in my elbow)

On Wed. I did:

5x5 RDL
5x5 squat (light day)

I have been reading the link to Rittpetoe that Cody gave me, lots of good stuff there.

I cannot wait for my birthday so I can get more weights.

(I get $50 for my birthday and I am spending it all on iron)

Not to lecture on you or anyting because i dont know your personal situation. But i would say, in my eyes, less money and more life is a better thing. For me personally, id prefer to be broke but still be able to do the things i enjoy, then to have a little extra cash in my pocket but working more and enjoying life less.

Like i said you could have kids, wife, etc. and might not be able to follow my broke bum life philosophy, but maybe there is a compromise where you can still box a little. Either way, good luck with whichever works out for you.

No offense taken.

If I was single, I could follow your path. But having my kids makes it a different story for me.

I have been looking to find places to learn from on my own. (like watching instructional clips on youtube of Rob Kaman and Peter Aerts)

I will just keep practicing by myself.

After I wrote my little rant, I did some thinking and realized that I am lucky I got to have one year of quality training. Now it is time to put my family first and myself second. They are the ones who are affected the most by me being gone training.

-Update-

Since I missed boxing last week, I will be going on Tues. and Thurs. of this week. Because of this I will mix things up a bit this week. (I am not up to a level of squatting 3 times and doing boxing twice within one week)

Also, I have started back doing the mini-workouts in the morning. (I just got lazy and stopped)

I have been doing the 5x5 for several months now and I am ready to start adding some more workouts to my daily routine.

My overall workout will be a bit up in the air until boxing in done. (sometime around Aug) as it is hard to work out Mon. and Wed. plus boxing on Tues.

My CoC work is coming along too. I have switched to doing these on Tues. and Thurs.

My front squat and RDL technique is coming along. I felt within the past week or two, that somehow, I am starting to get it. I need more weight and should be getting some next month.

The nice thing is, I went from struggling to front squat 100 lbs, to now doing this amount without too much trouble.

Nice to see I am getting better. My goal is to first, squat my bodyweight (I am aiming for 200lbs). A later goal will be to do double my bodyweight, but that goal is far down the road.

Another thing I have struggled to figure out, is how to get the dumbbells into my hands in order to squat. I cannot just pick up the weight and just swing it into place. (because of the bad elbow, I cannot do anything which bends it)

So I put the weights on my bed, and while squatting, I roll the dumbbells into my hands and then I can stand up. (if that make sense)

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Boxing class.

Worked on:

- Footwork
- 1-2
- heavy bag

I did better this time with the 1-2 combo. My footwork needs more focus, but I am getting better.
