The Iron is a Harsh Mistress
So here we go again I have started a log on here before but did not stick with it or lifting. So here we go again. I just Finished Rippetoes Beginner workout and decided I wanted to move on beyond that so i spoke with a friend of mine who is quite frankly the strongest human I have ever seen. He stands a mighty 5'8" and weighs 195 pounds with a Bench of close to 400,Squat and DL in the low 600's. Oh he is also 55 years old. I have seen him do these lifts with my own eyes and he has won many PL events.
So I asked him for advice and he wrote me up a workout that I intend to follow for the next 12 weeks and record my progress here. The workout when I first saw it seemed like it would be easy but my mentor assured it would catch up with me fast. So Monday when I start I will write it down here as well as my paper log.
Last but not last least some quick info on me
AGE 34
Ht 6'"2
Wt 310
PRS as of now
BP 295
Squat 425
DL 405
Goals
Squat 600
DL 600
BP 400

Your numbers look excellent for someone who just finished Starting Strength! You're a big guy, I'm sure you will be able to hit your goals, which are very impressive I did SS, followed by intermediate 5x5.
Look forward to seeing what sort of routine you will be using.

I had planned on doing the intermediate program but want to give this workout an honest shot. Also being as I work with him its like having a trainer around 8 hours a day plus can call him on weekends. On the numbers side they are nice but for as big as I am I am not as strong as I should be if that makes any sense. Thank you for the encouragement.

So today I did my first workout and it was pretty easy. Where I had stopped on the Starting Strength workout was higher than where I started here so this was really pretty easy.
Squats
250x5x3
Crunches 3x20
Leg raises 3x20
Thats it it was pretty easy as I said no volume at all. But in 12 weeks I hope to be doing 450 for sets of 2.

Today for lack of a better term was chest.
Bench 200x7x3
Close Grip Bench 155x8x4
Tri Ext 95x8x4
Bench has always been my worst lift if the big 3 by far so I hope is in 12 weeks I can one rep 350.

Damn, you are a BMF. Good luck. You have to love crazy strong old guys. There is the one guy at my gym who is in his early 60's, and every Wednesday he is in the gym wrapping up his knees and squatting for 5's in the high 300's.

SHOP 110X8X3
BOR 135X8X4
Curls 55x8x4
Well found out that my dislike of cirling the past year or so caught up with me fast. I really hope to improve on the asap *sigh* I never thought I would say that its a new low for me. Anyways I have in the past done mostly 3 or 5 reps per set doing 8 even with lighter weight is very taxing. I almost think its more of a mental thing that physical.

Squats
260x5x3
Pretty cut and dried nothing fancy I am concerend about the lack of volume but I have been assured as the weight starts to get very heavy I will be happy for this. And this is only a 12 weeks cycle so I can happlily do it and see if it works.
